Even on a Wednesday this place was busy so finding the serenity was hard, but there were pockets of it when the crowds thinned a bit and it was lovely. I did expect it to be more isolated, I didn’t realize it was so close...More

It is cool to see and walk under the Bamboo forest but there are so many people that it can be hard to appreciate it’s true magnitude.

Visited on a rainy day as our hotel wasn't too far away on the JR Line. It was quiet, not too full of tourists and great for a stroll through the bamboo. Nice for a peaceful walk.

This is in the arashiyama area less than 45 minutes from kyoto main station. There is lots to do in the area - visiting this bamboo forest is one. It's lovely and serene if your in the area it's a must do.

Everyone in the Arashiyama Area will pass through this lengthy street at one point in their trip but I won't have to tell you why: I doubt you won't be checking it out for yourself.

This is a good half day out if combined with the romantic train and the boat trip down the river and through the ravines. There is a garden (with a 1000 yen admitance fee) that is worth tagging on, It's tranquil and there's a lovely...More

A famous must-do when in Kyoto, this was one of the most disappointing sights in our trip. We expected the crowds; they were everywhere in a nice Kyoto summer day. What we didn't expect was a strict set of paths connecting two train stations with...More

We visited Arashiyama because we wanted to see the bamboo grove. The bamboo was 10 m tall, or even more and the path was several hundred meters long but it was very difficult to get a good photo as it was crowded. Towards the end...More

If you want a pleasant walk the path is nice. I didn't like the high fences, it made you feel apart from the forest. I wouldn't recommend this place and wouldn't do it again.

Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best
eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved
Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji
Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea
houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the
riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature
lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The

You take the JR San-In Line and get off at the Saga-Arashiyama station. I believe it's 6 stops. Once you get off, it's about a 15 minute walk. There are signs outside of the station that you can follow.

It runs about 60 USD. However it was well worth the price. Most of the rickshaw folks speak English, ask before hiring if they do, they do give an interesting commentary. Hubby paid for it as a treat for me and he ended... More
