Location: Sightseeing trains depart from Torokko Saga Station which is just next to JR Saga-Arashiyama Station. Summary: Sagano Scenic Railway (嵯峨野観光鉄道) aka Sagano Romantic Train or Sagano Torokko is a sightseeing train. Their route runs along the Hozugawa River between Arashiyama and Kameoka. Enjoyed the breeze/wind as you sit in this charming, old fashioned trains as it travelled at a... More

First of all, if you decide to do this, you absolutely need to book tickets in advance. There is assigned seating, and once those run out, you either have to wait for another train or get a standing room only ticket. Because of this, the train is overcrowded and less pleasant than it would otherwise be. The train ride itself... More

I came here during my autumn trip. Very scenic train ride. the train operates every 1 hour. Need to pay 620yen for 1 way. I only take 1 way ride and then proceed to take JR train direct to Kyoto Station

can't be missed if you have a day plan in visiting Arashiyama. Normally the crowds is from Arashiyama to Kameoka... Saga Torokko Station (at Arashiyama) is "hide" behind the JR Saga Arashiyama Station, i felt it is difficult to search for even i have GPS. i would recommend you to take the reverse course - Kameoka to Arashiyama. recommend to... This is the second time I had a ride in this scenic train from Saga to Kameoka. The first time was in 1999 with my mom. Recommended to friends and families with children because it is a fun ride. Folks who like to take photos, get your cameras ready because the scenery was magnificant.

This was a very scenic journey along a rushing river and through the woods. Be sure to have your camera ready at all times.

I came a day earlier to get the Sagano train ticket but was told to come early next morning. The next morning I manage to get the ticket but have to stand as all the seats are sold out. But still the ride is worth it....colorful scenery all along the way. Returning from the Kameoka, I took the amazing Hozugawa... More

One of the best in Kyoto. We're lucky when we arrived at Sagano station only few line of visitor, so we had chance to buy a ticket for romantic train. When we arrived in Osaka we tried to book the ticket in advance, but most of the day was fully booked. We just intended to visit the Bamboo forest and Togetsukyo... More

It is almost a "must" activity for visitors to take the Sagano train ride during sakura and momiji period. Separate train tickets are required and long queues are mostly found at Arishiyama JR station. But we have tried another experience to take photos on this romantic train ride from different locations in Arishiyama. This experience is highly recommended to other... More

This is an amazing journey for the autumn leaves and why you came to Kyoto. Otherwise, a nice nature train. Try to get compartment 5 i.e. the open area train on the way back. Stop off on the way back at the second last stop and go to the bamboo walk. Lots to do in this part of town, the... More
