Tourist spots in Kyoto = Symbol of Arashiyama !!

It is a scenic spot and one of the places I want to see. But it is crowded with tourists all the year round. Recommendation is early in the morning.

A scenery view from the bridge.. the bridge is larger than the pictures. I went there in winter,so it was freezing but nice.. you can see the Arashiyama mountain in the right, and in the left Oi river.. it's like an old bridge but cool!

Can't see what the fuss was all about. Not particularly scenic (and that was during the autumn red leaves season), and very crowded in the area near the bridge. In my opinion the various temples in the area certainly more worthy of your time.

The Togetsukyo (Bridge) was one of the must see when you are in Arashiyama. I had a present stroll around Arashiyama, crossed the old bridge and the scenery was pretty.

The bridge and the tree backdrop. Simply spectacular and a must stop when in this area. Could be tough to get a photo without a car passing by.

The bridge that connects the two areas of Arashiyama. Around the vicinity there are lots of shop, stalls, and fancy restaurants. You can also go on a Rickshaw tour.

You can get some nice pictures if there is no much crowd.Great view of mountains and autumn colors make it extraordinary. For me, crowd was huge, still enjoyed the scenery while having green tea ice cream. When you are at Arishiyama, do visit this place.

Gateway to Arashiyama. Crowded on Sunday. With cool weather (mist) and autumn foliage, one can come here for memorable photo taking.

There were many love stories about Togetsukyo in the past. Currently this landmark was just full of visitors and traffic particularly during festive or weekends. There were many shops around this bridge and visitors could try the ride of rickshaw or boat around this area. As we visited this place early in the day, so we could take some good... More

I was surprised to be told that Togetsukyo Bridge was a well known land mark. All I could think of while waiting to cross the bridge was whether it could support the weight of all the people!! Then I realised the fuss was not about the bridge itself but the view from it and the view incorporating it!! Of course... More

Staying in Western Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Western Kyoto
Western Kyoto is home to some of the city's best eccentricities. Kyoto's Saga-Toriimoto Preserved Street takes visitors back in time to the Meiji Period, where old homes have been transformed into tea houses and eateries. Pleasure boats drift down the riverbank, under wooden bridges that beckon nature lovers to hiking trails and botanical walks. The area's famously tall bamboo groves, monkey park, and impressive vistas during the Hanami cherry blossom viewing season mean that it is busiest in warmer months, though also gorgeous in the fall, when the mountains and hills along the banks turn multi-colored. Historic and engaging, even the rail cars in Western Kyoto seek to exemplify its traditional nature and scenic beauty. Many people, including natives, come to visit the 1,200 rakan statues at the Otagi Nenbutsuji Temple, which is still in use as a religious site.
