Neighbourhood: City Center
No district of Kyoto is quite as representative of its blended nature as the City Center. By day, the covered shopping arcades along Kawaramachi and Shijo Street bring deal hunters and fashionistas out in droves to peruse the clothing, accessories, gifts, and home goods offerings. When it grows dark, the City Center is a hip spot for nightlife, alive with bars and clubs. A trendy culinary scene and an abundance of local watering holes give the Center its youthful vibrancy. In contrast, the quieter areas of the City Center seem a world away, shielded from noise by the foliage of the public gardens and zen spaces surrounding the area's shrines, castles, and the Imperial Palace. These ancient and sacred spots are seamlessly folded into the scenery, providing a respite from the energy of the city, but close enough to put you directly back onto the pulse of the city when you're ready.

Visit this little shrine after you explore all of Shimogamo. This shrine is famous among women who wish for beauty. The ema are shaped like mirrors. You can draw on them with colored pencils to give the face makeup.

You can draw a picture on a cute mirror ema and offer it as a dedication. I think it's the most popular among women.
There were a lot of Instagram girls there, taking lots of photos. It's sure to look good.
The toilets are clean, but you have to provide toilet paper yourself. You can bring your own or buy it from the vending machine.

Kawai Sheine is a small shrine near Shimogamo Shrine. Compared with the latter, this shrine is not impressive, but you can find here a reconstruction of Kamono Chomei's cabin.

The ema here are shaped like a hand mirror and are called mirror ema. Eyes, noses, and mouths are drawn on the ema, so people put makeup on them and dedicate them to pray for beauty.

It has been worshiped as a sub-shrine of Shimogamo Shrine since ancient times, and its deity is Tamayorihime, the mother of Emperor Jimmu, who is considered a goddess of beauty because of her beauty like a jewel.
