This is a very old Buddhist temple where not so many tourists head out because it takes about an hour by bus from downtown Kyoto. It is sooo well worth it!. It feels legit and beautiful and ancient, unlike some of the other more visited temples. The moss garden is stunning and the pictures do not do it justice. There... More

We had to drive about 40 minutes from Kyoto central to get to this place. We had to walk in a nice mountainous atmosphere for about 20 minutes to get to the tempel. It is a nice Buddhist temple where in April is covered with mist. They have a nice moss garden and everything about this place is just serene.... More

Situated in Ohara, about 45-60 min outside Kyoto, the temple attracts far fewer visitors than other more well known temples, but surpasses them all in beauty. The temple is known for its streams, moss covered gardens, and incredibly tranquil surroundings. Take it slow and stop for tea while exploring the grounds. If you time it perfectly, the cherry blossoms are... More

Go visit this Temple in Ohara. A short train and bus ride form downtown Kyoto. Far from the maddening crowds of the other more famous temples. Grounds are beautiful, spend one or two hours roaming the grounds. Lovely!

After a fourty minute sleep in the back of a taxi my friends and I arrive at the gates of Senso-Ji temple. Having been told of the Temple's calming, zen-like aura we decided it was just what we needed after a long weekend of travelling. Upon entering the grounds of the temple we were confronted with the astounding site of... More

After my first visit three years ago, I told myself this would be the place I had to return to if I ever was back in Kyoto. So this November I went again. Still love it. It's beautiful and tranquil. Even when it's crowded you can feel its quiet spirit. The walk leading up to the temple actually builds up... More

Took train from Osaka to Kyoto (Hankyu express train), then bus No. 17 from Kawaramachi Train Station to Ohara. The bus ride was one hour. Arrived at Ohara, then walked up to the temple. Admission was 700 yen. The setting is serene and beautiful in the mountain forest. The grounds are peaceful, the temple is quiet. All signs are in... More

Sanzen-in Temple is about 50 minutes by car out of Kyoto. As a result, it is not that crowded. The temple grounds are very nice with beautiful gardens that has moss covered ground. There is a good noodle shop in front if you are hungry. The small temple near by has a fantastic garden with a 700 year old pine... More
