We arrived at Kyoto Station and saw the tower staring at us. Of course, we must go up as we have been very fond of looking at a city from the top!! A short walk from the Kyoto station,we were soon at the observation deck of the Kyoto Tower. We noted that Kyoto has very little high rise buildings and... More

If you are thinking of something in the past old day in Kyoto, this is one of the tower you should visit. Even it's not tall like Tokyo Sky tree or Tokyo Tower, but it's a good memorable to visit this tower

There are better towers in Tokyo, but this was the first of our trip so we enjoyed the experience. Great views and very helpful staff.

You can see everything from here. Very easy to get to from the Kyoto station and not too expensive. The views are good and can see a lot of the temples and shrines. We actually spent longer than we though going around a few times. Worth a trip for the city view shots.

Fun excursion that takes little time. Located just across Kyoto Station. Entrance cost is 770 yen per person. The views are worth it.

The view from the tower is spectacular especially at the time of the sunset. There are free binoculars to use which we spent a long time on.

This attraction is right next to the station, and is a very reasonable Y770. There is a great view, which makes you realise how Kyoto lies in a great basin surrounded by mountains. It gives you a really good orientation of the city, which I think will stick in my head. It wasn't too busy on a late Wednesday afternoon,... More

As far as towers with a view go, this one is fine but not spectacular. Reasonable for an orientation of how the city is laid out.

There's nothing of the city, you can't see form here. Entrance fee shouldn't be higher (in my opinion), and a bit more organization at the lifts would be appreciated.

This is a great view platform but for me the greatest thing was using it as a reference point. I had a place close to the tower so when I was out I would just look for the tower to orient myself and it helped so much when I was navigating around kyoto. It's next to kyoto station as well.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
