About
Patara Beach is one of Turkiye’s largest beaches and a naturally protected area. Here, you can admire the breathtaking backdrop of Lycia’s towering limestone peaks and honey-yellow sand dunes. The dunes are great for sunset-watching and have also made cameos in many Turkish films. Other popular activities here include rafting, horseback riding and canoeing on the Dalaman River. Patara Beach is also the spawning area of the endangered loggerhead turtles—you might see them hatch if you're lucky. Consider pairing your visit to the beach with a trip to Patara’s ancient city and witness the fascinating ruins there too. – Tripadvisor

- Anthony RAndover, United Kingdom89 contributionsA really worthwhile visit.A really worthwhile visit. We had a long debate whether to go for the ruins and beach or just the beach. We were told it was cheap just to go to the beach but once we arrived at the entry kiosk we told otherwise. It would be 1000tl (£30 approx) for a 5day pass - no other option!! Surely this cant be right??? We decided to go for the whole experience. It cost 340tl each (a little over £10 in October '23) and was worth it. We spent 4 hours wandering the ruined city and trying to piece it all together. Since we entered from the kiosk rather than the car park, we did not see the diarama until the end. Then it all made sense and we could visualise the ruins as a city with harbour. The downside of it all is that many parts of the ruined city are so overgrown as to be only partially visible or inaccessible. The signing and information boards leave a lot to be desired which meant we had to play it all by ear and guess our way around. The main features, as with most ruins, are the amphitheatre and the Assembly arena (this is very well reconstructed). We followed this with some time on the Patara Beach. An extensive and beautiful sandy beach which we did not have time to explore properly. The sea does not shelve too steeply so making it accessible to all.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 20, 2023
- EstebanMontevideo, Uruguay19 contributionsPatara is worth visiting! It's a very beautiful beach with fine sand. While there are many people in the sunbed area, outside of that zone, it's very spacious. There are some waves, but the sea is shallow. Since it's located in an archaeological site, there's an entrance fee of 15 euros per person, which includes access to the beach and the ruins. Renting umbrellas and sunbeds costs 150 Turkish liras each. It's a shame that visitors don't take care of the beach and leave so much litter, especially considering it's a protected area for being a nesting area for turtles.Visited July 2024Travelled with friendsWritten July 5, 2024
- Jon H6 contributionsReally lovely beachWe visited Patara Beach twice last week while staying locally. Despite some mixed reviews, we found the beach excellent and very clean. It is a little pricey, we paid 80 Euros for a 10-visit access pass, which covered our family of five for two visits. Renting sun loungers and umbrellas is optional but we found it necessary due to the scorching heat. They cost 150 Lira each (about £3.50) so it was £25 for five beds and two umbrellas. There are a few stalls selling the usual items near the entrance. Our hotel offered a shuttle service, but we also took a bus one day, which ran approximately every hour, and taxis were available as well. We ate at the café, which was okay and offered the usual toasted sandwiches, omelettes, chips, etc. To watch the sunset, I would recommend heading to the sand dunes, accessed via a different road from the village and free!Visited July 2024Travelled with familyWritten July 28, 2024
- A WRoyal Tunbridge Wells, United Kingdom7 contributionsBetter than the reviews suggestOk, so the price we paid today was 15 euros per person - this included the beach AND the ruins. The ruins are 4000 years old and really quite special. In the UK, we would pay £15 just for the ruins. Entry to Stonehenge is £30 for an adult, for example. The beach is beautiful. Some litter but not distressing. We paid 750 lire for 3 loungers and 2 umbrellas. You absolutely can sit on the beach without hiring any equipment, but be aware that the sand IS HOTTER THAN THE SURFACE OF THE SUN. My feet may never recover. Paid about £30 for a salad (fresh, delicious), two decent cheeseburgers and 3 ice cold drinks. Waited about 10 mins for our food. We nearly didn’t go because of the reviews on here, but I’ve really missed the sand during this holiday and needed a fix and I’m really glad we went. There were a lot of people, but the beach is huge and didn’t feel too crowded. Be careful how you park - you will quite probably get blocked in!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 11, 2024
- John CWoking, United Kingdom84 contributionsGreat day out very hotPatara beach is a definite must visit - beautiful unspoilt white sand, which is somewhat unique in this region of Turkey, and some great Lycian ruins (amphitheatres and columns) to look around beforehand. It is vast, with a beach bar and sunbeds in front for hire. If you want to bear the heat - it is so hot hottest sand perhaps I ever encountered at 40 C midday - you could lug your own. Overall it's an amazing day out and the sea is shallow for kids and warm. Most reviews on here are positive except for the price and in relative terms for turkey it is expensive but get some perspective please if you're on holiday it's 15 Euro a person (under 6s free) and sunbeds for a family of four is going to be about 20 quid. I think that's fine for a good day out at a really nice beach with some ruins thrown on. Burgers/grilled chicken for 4 and drinks ran to about 50 quid at the beach bar but again if that's a problem eat before or bring a sandwich. If you don't get hung up on cost then this is an amazing visit with no downside. Bring hats and sunscreen. Bring ideally crocs not flipflops the sand is exceptionally hot. Also good beach showers and toilets / general facilities available. Proper lifeguards on duty professional operation.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 11, 2024

Some says it's 18 km long, some 14. We walked 10 km of it up to a river. Loungers are only allowed by the cafe to protect carreta carreta turtles. If you walk only 1 km away from the cafe, you can have the beach just for yourself.

We read the reviews good and bad before going. We are two pretty easy going people and decided to go, not entirely trusting the bad reviews. My goodness I wish we hadn’t gone. It is 180tl to enter and 50tl per sunbed or umbrella. It was dirty, absolutely packed and when we were paying the staff were nonchalant and bordering on rude.
The umbrellas wouldn’t stay in the sand and fell over constantly. Lots of people brought their own chairs and put them around the beds so this made it more cramped. The beds are close together so when people exit the sea they will inadvertently drop water on you then flick sand over you with their flip flops.
The toilets… avoid this at all costs if you can, that’s all I’m going to say on that.
I’m staying in Kalkan and honestly zest beach club is a much better experience (we also got to see a turtle). If you are travelling from Kalkan you can save yourself 600tl taxi fees.

Patara is the best beach nearest to Kalkan if you love some waves and miles of Sandy beach. Interesting drive to get there because you drive past the many ancient ruins of Patara which you can visit . So much more is being discovered and preserved all the time
We just did the beach well organised with sun beds and shades which although basic are well spaced . In the hight of the season there is a life guard
The cafe is not the greatest with limited shelf service range since COVID so we decided not to bother but left for the village to eat

Please do not spoil it because its the last remaining nudist beach in Turkey. The entrance fee is 20 tl per person. You need to walk like 1, 1.5 km on beach. If course without any facilities where you and nature is alone. But if you want, there is some at the entrance with lots of people surrounding you.

The only direct access to the car park, from there on foot, is from the village of Gelemis.
The only access road is secured by a barrier and they charged €15 per person just to drive to the beach, which did not include any
services such as loungers and umbrellas.
The reason is that with the entrance to the site you could also visit the ruins of Patara, for which they now charge outrageous fees, as in other places too, but only for non-Turks, who only pay a few lira.
We traveled 350 km and were then asked to pay a €60 entry fee for four people,
we did not pay, this rip-off is now a system for foreigners at historical sites all over Turkey.
A Turk can buy an ID card/museum ticket for 65 lira per year, we would have to pay €165 for just 15 days

Beach is great and not really changed from the last time I went 20 years ago - mainly because it is a conservation area and I hope it stays protected. There are many more people here now as they provide sunbeds and parasols (they would make more money if they had mattresses as well as the sunbeds are a bit hard). The boardwalk needs extending as no good for anyone in a wheelchair or with a buggy as it stops short of the sunbeds and the cafe. Overall it is a beautiful spot and easy to get a dolmus or cab there and/or back. Pretty upset by the cigarette butts everywhere though as this never happened 20 years ago!

Visited here after a ten year break, this is one stunning stretch of sand..travelling up the beach it is clean and covered by huge sand dunes which back onto the ruins....
Coming back to the sunbed area the beds are all over the place and covered in sand and sadly the beach is filthy.
Surely charging 90tl entrance fee should go some way to paying someone to clean the beach and adding more bins..
Very disappointing

Certainly still one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe— - BUT the entrance fee has since been increased (340tl/person for day visitors, for 10 visitors only 1000tl) - the fee is probably still for the excavation site -, paths and beach are no longer maintained, but are covered in sand or dirty with cigarette butts and rubbish. The selection in the beach restaurant (self-service now) is small and the prices are significantly higher (the delicious Gözleme are no longer available, among other things, and there are no more ice creams...), the entire staff is disinterested and unfriendly. —- Very very sad, we are going somewhere else after many years :(

Я очень боюсь разных насекомых в воздухе и в песке. Кто водится в песке на этом пляже (скорпионы, многоножки, змеи) и на руинах Патары? Как обезопасить себя?

Hi iro4ka61
there might be mosquitoes if you stay till late evening on the beach to watch spectacular sunset (the beach offers fantastic view to sun going done). They are small and almost "soundless", so you realize it only once you suddenly find itching bites... We had this problem also on the open terrace of the restaurant.
Tourist area of Patara ruins is not dangerous, just stay on official walkways.
Enjoy your vacation,
Ash

Hi. Im going to go to Patara next year with my kids of 10 and 7 old for 5 days on july. Please tell me if the water is ok for kids. Is a deep water on seaside? Is big and dangerous waves or is common waves? are mosquitoes on the beach too? How much does it cost to enter the beach. Thank you.
Written November 11, 2018
Hi,
Patara beach is without doubts suitable for kids: it's very slowly descending and sandy; many meters away from the waterfront the water level is still around 1m. There are no big waves. We left the beach after sunset and did not see any mosquito whereas there are plenty of them in the hotel we stayed. Admission charge: a family card cost us ca 30 Lira, it allows multiple entries.
Happy vacation!

What’s the best time to go if you want to see the sunset?
Written September 11, 2018
It depends on the time. You can check the time of sunset in the internet. Concerning the mentioned toilets: they are a desaster!

Подскажите пожалуйста на каком общественном транспорте можно добраться с Олюдениза до пляжа Патара?
Written August 24, 2017
