Went for a few mile hike on this scenic trail system. The trail I took was beautiful with all the foliage. The trail was easy too because I was either on compacted gravel or asphalt.

It's more suburban & urban from Renaissance Parkway/Southpoint to its northern terminus in Durham (also a bit hilly around the mall and I-40 crossing) - this means there are more places to stop and eat/drink, and go indoors. More rural south of that - scenery...More

The scenic wooded path always has some shade in the hot summer. The gentle slope of the converted railway bed is never really steep up or down. The facilities for parking with bathrooms are always nice to have for access. A must stop place for...More

The tobacco trail is a great place for bike riding, hiking, running, dog walking. I love being able to ride without worrying about distracted drivers. It’s unpaved fom mile 14.5 to mile 22, so those with road bikes need to be aware of that.

We took the tobacco Trail South from South Point Mall, after crossing the pedestrian bridge over I-40, just to enjoy the bridge there and back. The trail to the South is long straight and No Nonsense. Slow gradual Rises and slow declines it goes on...More

My wife and I use this rails to trails to ride most weekends during decent weather. The trail is well maintained with numerous parking/entry points. The portion in Durham County is paved, the rest is hard packed. Also the northern portion is more urban and...More

As an avid runner, I enjoy the outdoors. There are few trails I have been to worldwide that resemble that of the American Tobacco Trail, with its long continuous paths shaded by lush greenery. Every time I have been here it has been to cycle....More

The Tobacco trail is a fun place to take a walk or a bike ride in the early morning. Quiet and solitude prevail. Just be aware that the trail stretches all the way to Durham and there is a crime element near there that have...More

We continue to go back to the American Tobacco Trail. The food is great and the service better. Also my kids like the fact they can watch hockey - they prefer the Flyers; and football (Eagles.......). Great place to meet

Yeah the one at New Hill looks closer, especially if your starting point is to the west of Holly Springs. Otherwise taking 540 up north and going to the Wimberly Road entry point shouldn't be too far either.
