We plan a trip to the NC Zoo and are very fortunate to live within a short distance. I personally feel the best time to visit the Zoo is in the spring before it gets blistering hot in the dead of summer. Plan to spend the day -- pack a picnic lunch. They have really nice picnic areas outside the... More

This zoo was one of the best I have visited. The exhibits are huge! The animals were very active and easy to see throughout the day. Be prepared to do some walking, but the sights in between exhibits are great.

So glad to see this is one of the zoos that doesn't keep all their animals pinned up in a cage but, rather, has invested money into making actual habitats, much like the animals are used to in their native environments. The chimps have a really cool swinging tree, hills and rocks; the elephants and rhinos actually have their own... More

A nice small Zoo to pass a nice afternoon time with the family. Took a pleasant 3 hour stroll through the Zoo and we were able to see all the exhibits. The exhibits are simple and the price is reasonable. There are several echibits you can feed and pet the animals. The kangaroo petting and lorakeet feeding was our family... More

My wife and I carried our eight-year-old grandson on a day trip to the N.C. Zoo in Asheboro because of its special dinosaur exhibit. We had a nice time. The dinosaurs were impressive -- lifesize with some sound effects. One or two ever squirted water. We had good views of most of the animals, but were disappointed that the gorilla... More

I normally get a bit depressed in zoos seeing all the caged animals, but the NC Zoo is much different. Most of the animals have some room to roam. Besides seeing the best of African and North American, there are great learning opportunities. Even if you aren't into the animals, the setting is beautiful with lovely landscaping and art throughout... More

Set three hours to fairly explore the zoo. The park is so large with a wide collection of animals. There is so much to learn at the different stations. I got there an hour and half before closing time and was only able to hastily explore the Africa part of the zoo. The tram connects to other parts of the... More

This zoo is very wide spread, so be prepared with plenty of water/snacks if you have little ones. There are a few stops for play/rest along the path and a nice "fast" food setting if the crowds are not too overwhelming. Overall a great zoo with lots to see

Our 4 year old LOVES animals, so this trip was specifically for him. He really loved seeing what animals he could but was disappointed that the gorilla exhibit was under construction as those are his favorite animal after elephants. (Thankfully the elephants were close by!). The zoo itself was clean, including the bathroom that we went to in "Africa". The... More

I was in town for an event and took a trip to the Zoo, you may want to give yourself 2 days to go through it, this place is huge. The elephant area alone has to be almost, if not larger than our entire Jacksonville, Fl zoo.
