This is a precious piece of not only North Carolina history, but of the American experience. The facility is wonderfully expressive, although not completely impartial in depicting the civil war. Great audiovisual presentations, artifacts, and displays. I learned many things about this geographic area and...More

As far as history goes, this fort has very little. The "battle" that was fought over the fort was hardly notable. However, the fort is in fantastic condition and has a pretty unique approach that my kids loved running down. The gap between the outer...More

This is outside so dress according to weather. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Plan about 1/2 a day. If you love old forts this is one not t be missed. Very educational and certainly not boring.

I was fascinated to see how the soldiers lived in the fort during the civil war. Those were some difficult conditions. I recommend that parents take their children and explain the informative displays and what it really meant to live in those conditions. The range...More

Great experience! Could have spent more time here. Video was very informative of the Forts history. I've been here before but learned new information on this visit thanks to video. Visitor Center employees were very friendly and helpful. Recommend especially on a non beach day.
