Fort Macon will never be on the level with Fort Sumpter for Civil War history. However, it is a wonderful outing while you are in the Atlantic Beach area. No admission fee and plenty of room for youngsters to pretend that they are Civil War...More

Great fort well preserved, and taken care of. Great exhibits, and short class. Has some interesting cannons on top of fort and kids loved it! Great beach down the road with a very reasonable snack stand, but bring cash.

We have been here many times - great view from the beach of ships going in and out and nice for shelling; very well preserved fort with interpretive rooms that was air conditioned and very detailed; and a nice place for kids of all ages.

I have been there many times and have never seen any hook ups. Emerald Isle has even better beaches and does have an RV park.
