Built by two local brothers from the village of Kinnakeet (now known as Avon Village), the pier took two years to construct. It opened its doors in the summer of 1963 and has been in continuous operation since then. The pier stretches 665 feet out into the Atlantic Ocean. Its visible crooked bends are testament to the forces of Mother Nature over the many years. Today the Avon Fishing Pier is the only pier remaining in operation in the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. The pier is world famous for its many records, especially with giant Red Drum that frequently school just off the end of the pier. Today the pier is in even better hands with ownership belonging to Koru Village Resort and Spa. Whether you are a seasoned angler or just taking the family fishing for the day, the Avon Fishing Pier is the perfect spot. Come and start a tradition of your very own today.

Took grandkids fishing on a cloudy, cool day. They all caught some fish and had a great time. The staff was very friendly and helpful and there was fishing equipment that you can rent for the day

We had a great day on the pier. The kids had a blast. Fishing and relaxing. Didn't catch much but that didn't seem to matter.More

Really nice folks! Harry's the man. He'll give you pointers; give you a personal daily fisherman's report; and good conversation. Everyone there is nice - even your fellow fishermen.

We paid the $1 per adult to go on to the pier. It was fine--not much to do on it besides walk out and look around for "sharks" with my daughter. We didn't find any! There is a nice playground out front.

Nice pier but busy. Nowhere to sit as all the benches were taken. Bring a chair if staying for a while. Not what I remember. They have done repairs but much shorter than it used to be. Live bait fishing off the end only.

Nice pier, beautiful scenery. Crossed fishing lines too much due to crowded pier. Still fun and a great experience!

Do you need an out of state fishing license in N.C. If so, does 70 yrs old exempt you?
