If you love trains this is worth a quick stop. Lots of local flavor and train information not a huge place takes about an hour to get through.

Went here to burn off the morning rain before seeing the curve. Museum is nicely done. Two movies give the history of Altoona and the curve. Be sure to also check out the roundhouse which houses GG1 #4913.

A must-see before or after going to the Horseshoe Curve, the museum is extremely well-done and entertaining. We spent hours fascinated by the exhibits and remarkable artifacts, and came away vowing to return in the future as we didn't even see everything there is to...More

It's amazing to think that Altoona was the largest Railroad building and repairing place, at one time, in all of the USA! This museum does a great job of bringing that home, and showing all about what Railroad life was like then. There's lots to...More

We toured this after seeing the Horseshoe Curve. We bought a ticket that covered both. Great museum. Can you believe, Altoona once had 17,000 employees in the railroad (Pennsylvania Railroad), the largest in the country (and perhaps the largest facility in the world at one...More

For us the real joy of railroad museums is in the rolling stock. This place has a very long way to go in order for it to attract us back. Compared with the B&O museum in Baltimore it comes off very badly. It was not...More

Great little place to see some of Altoona's oldest full size trains in both restored and original shape.

The Railroaders Memorial Museum is downtown and Horseshoe Curve & Museum are a few miles outside of town. If you buy a ticket for either, you can go to the other on the same day for no additional charge.

You can buy tickets at the museum not shade trees there or picnic area The Horseshoe curve has an incline or walk up and there is an area at the top and bottom where you park for shade and a picnic
