This is THE National Center for Children's Illustrated Literature! Seriously! NATIONAL!!! The most famous illustrators have their work displayed here and open their own exhibit then their work travels around the country! This is a DO NOT MISS spot!

The center itself only had a small area with original art on the walls. We did enjoy hunting the various sculptures of storybook characters in the vicinity.

I drove an hour from Ranger to see this in Abilene. Just one exhibit - one room - one illustrator. Not worth the trip though driving around and looking for the statues helped make up some of the disappointment. Person at desk says they cannot...More

This gallery was small, but interesting. They focus on different illustrators during the year. My only complaint was they did not have enough signed books to buy. It is small, and does not take much time.

I am very sorry that you were disappointed in your visit. The NCCIL organizes and displays exhibitions of original artwork from children's book illustrators. Exhibitions change 3 times a year, and they are almost all single artist shows featuring artwork from multiple books. There is...More
