We spent time in jail on Saturday, but we don't have to be ashamed of it. The Old Jail Art Center. This is a "saved from demolition" unused jail, turned into art center to display part of the family art collection. I use the term "some" loosely, this is a "must see" spot in Albany. Currently on display through February... More

This museum was created by Ft. Worth artists and arts supporters, some of whom grew up on Albany-area ranches. Thus, the focus is on Texas artists, both contemporary and going back in time. But, the museum also has works by Toulouse-Latrec, Klee and Renoir. There is also a fascinating sculpture garden.

This lovely at museum was an unexpected pleasure during our visit to Albany. It is a beautiful building with a lovely outdoor sculpture garden and a fine collection. Original artwork of Thomas Hart Benton, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Klee, Amedeo Modigliani, Pablo Picasso, and Joan Miro. A must!

This museum tells the history of the region and the history of the Fandangle. There is a collection of various pieces of art and a nice courtyard. Worth visiting if in the area.

I've been to the Art Center several times, but until recently, it had been a while. They had a traveling 'Lonesome Dove' exhibit that we REALLY enjoyed. There are other exhibits that we really enjoyed but ran out of time. We will go back!

Exhibits are a bit surprising ... Modigliani and Renoir and Picasso and a Buddha head in Albany? Such surprise is half the fun. But there are other exhibits, too. One exhibit, though small, explored confinement and isolation as psychic and emotional states, not just physical incarceration ... a great idea for an exhibit in this setting. And everyone's just so... More

This is in RURAL TEXAS! They have artifacts from China, pottery from before Jesus walked the Earth, and even *original* works of art. You can stand within freaking inches of an ACTUAL painting by some famous dudes whose names escape me because I came more for the ancient China exhibit. Is it huge? No. Would I drive there if I... Albany has such a strong civil society. They put on an exceptional summer festival event. And they pulled together this little museum with such an interesting and varied collection of southwest articles. I especially found the collection of Mexican painted tin lids, if that is what they were, to be interesting. I'd heard about this style but had not seen... More

Interesting place for a gallery, but it is very well done. They have kept the architecture from the jail and stoked it in with new art, nicely done!

Found the at museum by accident. It was a nice stop and some good stuff for such a small town. I really enjoyed the stop here. I would not hesitate to stop in again if I was in the area. No fee required.
