I visited Big Bend with a friend of mine from Houston, I'm from Seattle. I was amazed how beautiful of a National Park it is. There is a lot to see, via hiking and it was not crowded at all. Evidently, June is off season...More

The pink casita on the hill was so beautiful, quiet & clean. Great view of the Chisos mountains. Very interesting and friendly people!

I have no words. It's not easy to get there, and it implies driving quite a beat but the park is absolutely amazing. We did horse back riding, canoeing and just visiting. It is fascinating, pure and simple. I am not an outdoorsy person by...More

We hiked the Emory Peak Trail at the park. About halfway along the trail we came face-to-face with a black bear. "Exciting" doesn't cover it. The bear was about 30 feet away when we first saw it. We slowly backed down the trail and let...More

This is a huge park. So much so, there's a gas station on site. To the West you have the Rio Grande running through Santa Elena Canyon with a trail through it. In the middle you have Balanced Rock and the Chisos Basin. To the...More

This park is not motorcycle friendly, lots of gravel parking lots. Scenery was ok, but we didn't get to go up to the Basin, it was closed which was disappointing. The Castalon Center was the only place we got to visit and the parking lot...More

We last visited Big Bend 30 years ago. Though dry and hot this time it was still a marvel to behold. Drove through the entire park starting at Old Maverick to Santa Elena canyon. We hiked the canyon (not difficult) then drove to Chisos Basin...More

We will be spending only one night in Alpine, TX. What should we try to see in Big Bend National Park, in that short time span, from Alpine?

Spend the morning there as early as you can when it's cool and much less crowded than the afternoon. Head to the centre, the Chisos basin and hike up any of the trails. Fabulous views and escape.

Definitely contact Panther Junction visitor center. When we visited last December we had 3 days at Bibe and wanted to do everything! The knowledgeable and courteous staff and volunteers helped us immensely.

Hi,I need ome help, please! We,my huband (and me ) will be in the US ,middle of November 2016. He will be attending a congres in San Antonio and we will be there for a week. Then we will rent a car and would like to do some sightseeing. We do love nature, are almost 70 years of age,and do have some, unfortunate, health issues. I do have SLE and he did have a knee replacement 4 weeks ago,but that will all be sorted out by November We also ,if possable, would not like to do more than 250-300 Km each day and we have app 10 days before coming home, also boarding in San Antonio, and overnight in San Antonio the night before returning home to South Africa. We thought of first going to the Big Bend Nat Park, then to up north to Amarillo, then back to San Antonio. We always try to keep away of the highways if possable Please,if you know the area, give us some pointers, where, what and how. Thank you so much. Izelle
