The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to...

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center in Austin, Texas, is dedicated to inspiring the conservation of native plants. Located a quick but quiet ten miles from downtown, we are a botanical garden open to the public year-round and have become a favored venue for everything from conservation-focused conventions to beautiful weddings.

We carry out our mission to inspire the conservation and application of native plants through our gardens, campus, research, education and outreach programs. In doing so, we improve water quality, provide habitat for wildlife and enhance human health and happiness. Visit, learn and make a better world with us.

The Wildflower Center was founded by Lady Bird Johnson and Helen Hayes in 1982 and became a part of The University of Texas at Austin in 2006.

When the wildflowers are bloomed this is such an impressively beautiful place! I love going into the silos and looking out over the landscape. The gardens are wonderful and I love the style of the buildings. I am so glad that my family and I stopped here. Highly recommended.

Understated but well worth the visit. If you live in the area there are lots of wildflower plants and seedlings available for purchase. A very good educational resource.

My wife and I had the privilege of attending a wedding here recently and let me just say this place is absolutely stunning. If you have the opportunity to visit you would be a fool not to go. The scenery is beautiful and the buildings are really cool.

As a Master Gardener, I typicallly love visiting botanical gardens, etc. I visited the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center on Friday, March 24. Things were not well marked. For instance, a newer oak tree area had informational markers off trail, near the tree not near the trail. My friend who lives in the Austin area and took me there commented,... More

Thank you for visiting and for your feedback on the garden. We're always looking for ways to improve our guests' experiences. In the Texas Arboretum, we do place signs closer to the trees they mark to minimize confusion. Your friend is right to say that anywhere in Texas, you should be on the lookout for wildlife! We try to keep... More

One of the most engaging arboretums I have ever visited. Great diversity of natural and interpretive trails along with numerous demonstration gardens. Lots of informative signage. Outstanding childrens' area as well.

Unfortunately there isn't much shade to be had in the central display gardens, but if you're lucky, you can dodge under an acacia tree, or better yet, peruse the extensive gift shop, tasty onsite cafe, or rotating art exhibits at the education center. Gorgeous stonework and beautiful buildings abound, yet still look like they belong in the landscape. This is... More

The weather has definitely been all over the place, but we are so glad you enjoyed your experience in spite of a warmer day! Our native Texan plants are acclimated to it, but it can be harder for humans. We're also glad you noticed all the indoor opportunities. And thank you much for noticing the thoughtful design -- we think... More

Thanks for visiting and sharing! If you're here on a hot day next time, duck under the trees and swings in the Texas Arboretum, view some nature inspired art in the McDermott Center, and view our Legacy Theatre display where you can learn about Mrs. Johnson! More

Very well worth the trip if in Austin visiting or killing time. This is a lovely example of how beautiful the Texan countryside can be and it's also environmentally friendly and supports the local community.

We were there in March and the Blue Bonnets and a lot of wildflowers were in bloom so it was very pretty. The grounds and trails are well kept and the trails are easy to walk.
