Reading some of the reviews here, I had very low expectations of the Austin Zoo, expecting limited sights and activities for me and my kids. I was pleasantly surprised--yes, it's a rescue zoo, but they've put together an amazing array of animals, from lions, tigers and bears to lemurs, snakes, and birds. We spent most of an afternoon wandering around... More

This is essentially a rescue Zoo and unlike a typical large Zoo like San Antonio. Its a good visit for the family for a few hours and you are supporting the rehousing of mistreated animals as well. Nice variety of wildlife and a pleasant stroll.

All the animals here are rescues. The entry money goes to helping these rescued animals. Your donation is appreciated.

This zoo takes in rescue wild animals and will tell the story at each location. Not here to exploit animals like other zoos. This is here to help save animals and find homes from places they've been that were undesirable. The granddaughters loved it here. A small zoo but well cared for and you walk away with a feeling knowing... More

The best part of this zoo is the giant pig. Because it's a sanctuary/rescue based zoo, they don't really have a lot. I do admire the morality of it, but it isn't really something to go see/do; rather, it's something to make a donation to.

If you are used to and desire a big city zoo experience, this will not do it for you. The Austin Zoo is a quaint, well meaning but half hearted attempt to display animals in captivity. For sure there are some interesting animals on display. The monkey related species, goats, a couple of big cat varieties, pigs and some birds... More

My kids love coming here. It's not your typical zoo and that's what makes it great. So much more interaction with the animals and it's great to know that these animals have been rescued, not captured just for us to look at. We go all the time. Fun family day activity for sure!

This is a small easy zoo to visit with an amazing array of rescued animals. For you Pokémon people there are tons of PokeStops and lots of Poemons. Feed the goats...have fun...

My husband and I traveled to the Austin Zoo this weekend out with the kids. They had a blast. The train ride was great, as well, passing through the trees and looking across miles of beautiful hillside country. Beware of the bees. And if you need a place to cool down the reptile area is the best.

Very average as small zoos go. Easy to see with toddlers but could use some work and the variety of animals is lacking. We went in the fall for the "Boo at the Zoo event . Kids could dress up... Cute idea but the execution lacking. Puppet show was just creepy and not in a good way. Reminded me of... More
