Lady Bird Lake in the heart of Austin was Town Lake. This is a city treasure for sure! Unfortunately, the LCRA and City of Austin have not done their part to control the thick growth of algae and water grasses that now nearly choke the...More

Rowing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding....are just the on water sports. Add a winding chat trail that lines both sides of the lake and you have hiking, walking and bicycling trails. Wildlife is around each bend, including swans, raccoons, ducks and turtles. Peaceful and wonderful!

Town Lake is gorgeous to look at when you drive by and great for hiking around. The hike and bike trail is enjoyed by many and provides a great opportunity to get exercise and enjoy the view.

Partook of some town lake kayaking and paddleboarding in the 100 degree heat and it was perfect! Not too crowded, but people around. Kids were jumping off mopac bridge which was stupid in my opinion, but fun to watch none the less.

For swimming, definitely check out Barton Springs or Deep Eddy. I know paddleboarding is popular on Town Lake, and you can find rentals for paddleboards and kayaks.

Parking - Lots of it! Just depends on where you are staying or arriving along the 10 mile hike & bike trail around the lake. If east of IH-35, we suggest you Google the Austin Hostel and park near the lake on the south side... More
