Commune with Texas history. Stephen F. Austin, Barbara Jordon, and so many other great Texans. It is a peaceful memorial park in East Austin that pays respect to many of those who built Texas and its unique culture.

The cemetery wasn't on our list of things to do. We drove by it after our Sunday brunch and a walk felt like the right thing to do. I love cemeteries and the history they carry. The Texas State Cemetery holds many dignitaries and many of the monuments tell the story of a state with strong unity and pride.

What a beautiful place of rest for our brave Men and Women who fought for our people of Texas, whether it was on the battlefield or through their service in the government. Chris Kyles monument was not up when I was there but saw the other day on FB that it has been placed and what a beautiful job they... More

The Texas State Cemetery is "our" Arlington. This is where heroes, legends, and giants rest. Go for an hour or all day, it's worth the effort Texas history buffs will find the memorials of everyone from Stephen F Austin to Bigfoot Wallace. There are too many politicians to count and some of the biggest names in literature like J Frank... More

The town tour that we went on took us in a van thru here. It was informative. I did not know that Chris Kyle was buried here (American Sniper) or that they had a 911 memorial here as well. there are a lot of soldiers buried here as well.

Well worth seeing. The best part is you do not even have to get out of your car. And after you've done it, try going up to West Austin and seeing the incredible homes at the very top of the hill in West Austin. You do need a car in Austin if you want to take various day trips and... More

A cemetery is a cemetery. Some of them are interesting with strange stones to see marking the places where the dead folks now abide. The Texas State is full of fallen heroes and politicians so that is the interesting part. If you know anything about Texas history it can be fascinating. If you are from Vermont it is pretty dull.... JMJ A beautiful park like cemetery! So much history! Also they offer a self guided walking and an audio tour. Thirteen governors of Texas are also buried here and numerous leading people of Texas. In 1851 this cemetery was necessary to bury Gen. E Burleson and it has been growing in importance ever since. There is a visitors center if... More
