I guess everyone wouldn't consider the cemetery a tourist spot, but I have always considered them interesting. This cemetery is the first I've ever experienced where the monuments were in the shape of Texas! Many had not just names, and dates, but also the history of their lives imprinted on the stone! It was beautiful and quiet and amazing that... More

Great place despite the dead folks. Lots of history here. Civil war generals, Texas founders, politicians and others. The grounds are well kept and lots of shade for those interested in visiting during the warmer months. Closes early most days

Whether you enjoy history, interesting tombstones, or just finding a quiet place to read, this cemetery is an oasis just minutes from downtown. Shaded and has nice walking paths, too.

Spent over two hours walking, reading, looking at this wonderful cemetery. Many of the movers and I portant people of Texas history are buried there, and continue to be interfered. And there's some interesting surprises!

Did you know the shortest state highway in Texas runs through the cemetery? Even without a true tour, the map PDF highlighted significant graves and the online audio explained things well -- though there was no instructions for how to get from one spot to another.

We drove to Austin on Saturday . We found the cemetery fairly easy . WE saw Ann Richards Grave ,Chris Kyle's grave and many more distinguished Texans . Tom Landry has a Tombstone and a military marker , but he's not buried there .He's buried in Dallas ,I thought that was weird .His wife said she wanted him honored at... More

What a wonderful place to meander through as history seems to unfold in front of you. The grounds are gorgeous with stately trees, serene ponds, and rolling terrain. Everything is special and has great meaning from the war memorials to the 9/11 monument beautifully designed for impact to the profound uniqueness of the varied markers.

It sounds a bit macabre to visit a cemetery to view history, but the state of Texas has selected and maintained a magnificent bit of history, for famous Texans. Everyone from Stephan F. Austin, to Barbara Jordan are buried here. We made a special trip to honor Chris Kyle, whose story was told in books and the movie American Sniper.... More

Visiting here makes me a little sad, but it is a beautiful memorial. You can do a drive by, or walk the cemetary.
