Old school Honky Tonk

According to most reviews, the place was really something. We found the food in the little restaurant to be palatable, but a bit pricey. We were a bit early, so we went ahead and paid the $12 cover (per person) and went in to dance hall. Declined the $8 per person 1 hour dance class (which was to be 2-step... More

They have food but that's not the real draw for the Broken Spoke. The real beauty of the Broken Spoke is the live country western music and dancing. It is an old time country western bar that serves some food. It's a great place to dance for young and old and Terri White offers honky tonk 2-step dance lessons Wed.... More

We had a wonderful evening! Music was provided by the Paula Russell band who sang dozens of country standards. They were excellent! We enjoyed dessert and the memorabilia room. Don't miss one of the great landmarks of the Austin music scene!

We stopped here on our way from the Austin airport to San Antonio and had a wonderful evening. The food -- especially the brisket -- was delicious and inexpensive. The Friday night musician during dinner was exceptionally talented, and we loved listening to him sing classic Texan ballads and anthems as he played along on his guitar & fiddle. As... More

The food here is merely something to put in an empty stomach. The staff was nice enough, but not overly friendly. It's a good place to go if you just want to be able to say you've been there. I worry about the ceiling caving in over the stage.

If your looking for a Real Country bar this is the place. Jimmy White opened the saloon in 1964. It still is as original today as back then. Jimmy Greets every one at the door and he has had some of the greatest performers start out there. He will even sing a song or two and you can "walk"dance around... More

We only popped in for a bit and sad in the front area. They had an older gentleman singing old school country/western songs who was fantastic. Didn't eat but the food looked good. Mostly comfort style food. Reminded my of the local bar in my rural hometown back in Missouri. They have dancing in the back after a certain time,... More

What a cool place. Throwback cowboy music and Texas two-step dance floor. Have a cocktail, or two. Be careful where you stand as you can be grabbed and dragged on the dance floor. Overall great fun, good bands, and best dance hall I have seen in Texas.

I have no idea how long the Broken Spoke has be around but I can tell by the setting it's been a long time. The building sits on a gravel lot surrounded by modern building. Everything about this building looks original. You enter the restaurant then pass thru to the dance hall. The dance hall is much larger than the... More
