We attended Austin Symphony Orchestra's Concert last night. There was one work on the concert - Mahler's Sixth Symphony - and they did it superbly. Mahler is a great favorite of mine - having played Mahler's Fifth in the past and listened to his work for decades. The Sixth is a vast piece (over an hour long) - and I... More

Attended the opening concert, which was all Mozart works. The Requiem was magnificent and included 180 choral singers. Highly recommend attending a concert here if you are in the Austin area. The auditorium is beautiful and has wonderful acoustics. There are bars that serve drinks before the concert and at the intermission.

This is one of the true gems in Austin. We have been several times this year. The musicianship is not as great as ft worth, Dallas or Houston, but it's not far behind. The conductor and musicians have fun with their presentation without cheapening their art. The only drawback is the audience that - for the most part - dresses... More

The music on July 4th was good. Since I could not find a place to review the Fireworks, I will have to vent here: Sorry Austin but I have seen lots better fireworks in towns 1/20th of your size. VERY disappointed in fireworks, but Symphony saved the day. Will not be back for July 4th and do not recommend!

On first hearing, we were a little disappointed. The Hummel Trumpet Concerto with Alison Balsom a few months ago was very good, but the rest of the program was kind of ho-hum. Then we attended their Carmina Burana on May 30, and it blew the roof off. Best one we've heard. What I gather is that Peter Bay is passionate... More

Went last nite to the Copeland concert. If you go leave at intermission as the second half is an old film about equality among fisherman. Unions! I think a lot of people read in the Obama agenda and left angry. Really Peter was just trying something different...but. A huge flop. The phones will be ringing Monday morning at the symphony... Saw the Rachmaninov piano concerto #2 with the Austin Symphony and bought a great seat that some series member turned in. It was keyboard side and perfect acoustics. The musicians in the orchestra did a good job and I would go back again in future.

Long Centre an excellent listening venue. The orchestra and its conductor rate as one of the best in the world. The conductor's accessibility attending pre-concert talks a real bonus.
