We came in late April with our two young boys. They had a blast recording the animals they saw and earning their Junior Rangers badges. The park employees were kind & helpful! Bring cash for entrance fees ($5 per carload of more than two). We...More

We had a GREAT time. But it took us 45 minutes to get there from Rockport and once we left the main road and wandered through mega-farmland, the GPS made one mistake after the other. When we reached and actually saw the gate, it said...More

I had been told by a serious birding friend 40 years ago that I should visit this place, and I finally had the opportunity. It was well worth the visit. Although conditions were not great for seeing migrating songbirds (onshore wind rather than offshore) we...More

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the refuge. In one part of the refuge, you can drive to different trails where you'll find observation platforms within easy walking distance of the parking area. At some stops there are trails that take you deeper into that...More

As others have noted, if you wish to see the Whooping Cranes, you should have a spotting scope. Without one, you may likely be disappointed that your view of this rare species is just of white 'dots' 1/4 mile away. I had 8x42 binoculars, and...More

Had a great time here as we always do when we visit. Didn't see any cranes but did see quite a few alligators. See pictures. We saw a couple right next to the visitor center at the viewing deck. Great place to get your kids...More

Aransas NWR is a bit of a drive north of Rockport, Texas but; is a lovely place and the winter home for endangered Whooping Cranes. The reception center has small but very informative interpretive center. The volunteers and staff are super helpful in providing guidance...More

The staff here are very friendly and helpful. There IS a lot of wildlife here (alligators, deer, javalinas (or something close to them) and of course birds. There is a very nice driving route with stops well marked. The old old Oak tree is certainly...More

This was fun. There's plenty of walking to get kids energy out or you can drive. We saw gators, birds, the cranes were super far away.

can you purchase the senior lifetime national park pass at this location? If so, do you have them available now? Will probably be there on Friday, 5-26. Do you need a 4wheel drive vehicle?

Yes. Purchase of pass is available. Roads are paved. Try some of the walking trails as well as the viewing tower. Bring plenty of water. Have fun.
