I recommend driving 3/4 of the way up the mountain and then taking the mile hike to the observation tower from there. The views, from the top, are beautiful and there are a lot of great spots to picnic and enjoy the views.

This is a great drive. Nearly to the lookout tower at the top, a short walk is required. There is no reason for disabled not to go, there are a couple picnic tables near and fine views from the parking lot, where the trail to the top begins. We went up last fall, it was clear and we saw the... More

We took the Auto Road most of the way up, and then hiked up to the Summit. It was a relatively easy hike. We didn't go up the tower to see the view because there were quite a few people up there, instead we just walked to the highest point ourselves. I wasn't all that impressed with the view. There... We hiked the Weathersfield trail with our miniature poodle. It was a moderately difficult hike. It took us 4 hours total but that included stops for lunch and to enjoy the overlooks. I would recommend eating at the first scenic vista (that has the wood platform) instead of the peak because the scenery is better and there is not a... More

For $4 per adult we (2 couples) went on the Brownsville hiking trail and stopped at "the summit" the tippy-top of the Ascutney Mountain the view from the tower was amazing and I would recommend doing that if eve you're in a drivable distance to the park

There are trails from the base of the mountain which if you are up to it are a challenge and awesome . The reward at the observation tower or west peak are worth your efforts . If you have less time or don't have the fitness to get all the way up, drive the auto road. It gets you with... More

We really enjoyed our visit in the State Park. We chose to drive up the mountain. It cost about $12 for our family of four. The drive was slow and scenic. The views were amazing!!! Stopped a few miles in and took a look. Finally got to the summit and took a couple of family shots and even had a... More

Well can't see as much at peak if it is too cloudy. There is a viewing area not at the peak that allowed us a pretty good view. So pick a cloudless day I am sure it is an awesome view!

My hubby and I camped at Mt. Ascutney State Campground the week of July 25th. The campground itself is small but our site, Spruce, with a lean-to was large enough for a Big Agnes Flying Diamond 6 tent and our friend's (who showed up on Friday) 6 person Coleman plus our canopy over the picnic table. It was the first... More
