Overview
More
Two houses on the property: 1. Woodlawn is a house that was built on George Washington's property for his step-granddaughter Nelly and her husband Lawrence. Starting off as 2,000 acre plantation built in 1800, the house went through a number of interesting owners before becoming the first site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. 2. Frank Lloyd Wright is practically a household name these days, but this small Usonian house was a unique design of his. Originally built in 1940 in Falls Church, VA; this house is a true example of preservation-in-action!

Excellent guided tours of both historic Woodlawn and the Frank Lloyd Wright designed Pope-Leighey house. Interesting to compare and contrast two famous homes. Especially since 2017 is the 150th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Wright, we wanted to visit one of the homes he...More

Woodlawn, the plantation is a must visit after seeing Mount Vernon. Their histories are so linked. Be aware that the physical house isn't nearly as furnished or rich as Mount Vernon, but the history that the docent imparts throughout the house is outstanding. I feel...More

First: we're huge fans of Frank Lloyd Wright (FLW) and his architectural style. We've seen his creations at Falling Water, Kentucky Knob and Taliesen West. The Pope-Leighey house is relatively close to us, but we've just never managed to make it there. Our opportunity came...More

This little jewel is an often missed attraction. Only several miles from I-95 and 3 miles from George Washington's Mount Vernon, it makes for a perfect day trip in DC metro area. The 45 minute tour is informative and relaxed! No one should miss this...More

I loved the Frank L Wright designed home. Practical, simple, functional.in design and use of a two bedroom one bath residence in that era.

Though it had been 41 years since my last visit, it was nice to see Woodlawn Plantation and return to show my children around the property for their first visit. The house itself could use some work, and the once beautiful gardens I recall seeing...More

You can't get more difference in architecture than these two houses on the same property. The colonial Woodlawn is just so wonderful and grand and all the furnishings are so interesting to see. Then, over at the Frank Lloyd Wright house, you get to be...More

The guides in both houses were excellent and very knowledgeable. Woodlawn needs some restoration work, but most old houses do. The contrast between the two properties is very interesting to see. I would go again because you would always see something different. Do take the...More

We have been to Falling Water and since we were in Alexandria.we checked out this house. A bit too small and claustrophobic for us but and interesting housing concept.
