This is one of my favorite historical places in Alexandria. When my son, his wife and my grandson visited and they wanted a place to go for a walk, away from the traffic, and to learn a bit more about local history, this was my...More

The park itself is very good, and the historical reenactments are outstnding. What is not good is that pedestrians and cars share the road, plus the street noise from I395 is quite audible. Creation of a pedestrian path or lane would help, or restricting access...More

DC is chock full of history at every turn and corner. Fort Ward is one of those hidden "forts" that pepper the VA urban side. Due to its big brother attractions, this gets a step brotherly treatment. Historically, this place isn't good, but they have...More

Fort Ward is the kind of place that probably wouldn't be a city park everywhere. It might not rise to the National Park distinction, but there's more here than the city park designation indicates. The fort, even though much of is is re-created, is in...More

It was a good visit and the museum was nice but it was much smaller than we expected from what we saw online. Saw everything in under an hour and it was free. Great spot for walking.

We really enjoyed our stop here, There is plenty of history to be seen and it was a nice place to explore. The only down side was that the museum was closed the day we went. Otherwise, it was a lot of fun!

This is a teriffic park for a summer picnic or stroll but I brought my children so they could learn about the fort. History books generally show pictures of wooden stockades or stone walls when they talk about forts but Fort Ward, and most of...More

Fort Ward is a great place to walk around to view history and take in scenic views. There is a playground for kids and places to cook out.

A great place to visit for a couple of hours. The museum, while small, has exhibits that are well presented. Especially for fans of "Mercy Street" there are some good exhibits on Civil War medicine and hospitals in Alexandria. The fort area is well preserved...More

We like walking around Fort Ward. It is an oasis in the midst of neighborhoods. The walking whether with friends or the family dog is enjoyable. There are cookout areas throughout the park. If you want to have a sizeable group event, you can reserve...More

A great site to walk and explore. Not huge but big enough for a good walk. Offer various recreation activities.

Watch the park schedule on the web site. We visited when the park hosted a Civil War Reenactor Encampment. Adults and children of all ages were there. It was an outstanding experiential learning event - see, hear, touch - real civil war era items (ex,...More
