Great location

Nice and beautiful. Too bad it was December. Hope to come back in summer or fall. Spend a night at the park lodge.

I made a pit stop here on the way back to Huntington from New River Gorge and it disappoint. The hike down to the overlook is quick (only 100 stairs, the seductive sign says so!) Once at there, some great views of the dam and the rail bridge. There is also a skyride down to the gorge floor and, if... More

Visited this beautiful overlook a second time on a warm, sunny fall day. Even though the fall leaves were not a bright as years past, there were still some very beautiful sights and great photo opportunities.

We had to stop to admire the view, the dam & enjoy the serenity. As usual the whole place was closed for the Season but the picnic area & walkways were still accessible. Provides a great view down on New River , Hawks Nest Dam & the CSX Train line which permeates the entire New River Gorge !!

Friends took us to this state park to show us the views of the river and mountains. It was a cold day (mid 20s) so we didn't walk around for too long. Nice parking area with a very short walk to the overlook. Area is well maintained and clean and the views were awesome. Bring your camera. Large permanent binoculars... More

An absolute must-stop if you're in the area. The picnic overlook is free and never busy. Beautiful view, they have telescopes that are fun for the kids as well. Great little place to have lunch or take a short break from driving.

I've stopped here several times over the years, normally when I'm in the area to take photographs of the New River Gorge in October when the fall foliage is at it's best. The area has a long history going back to the early 1800's when this was part of Virginia. Perched high over the New River overlooking a dam contructed... More

Very nice place to visit. The front desk lady when we arrived was very nice and friendly. Wonderful place to visit. Great views. Enjoyed the tram ride and the Jet boat ride to see the New River Gorge. Breathtaking view. Room was very nice and bed was very comfortable. We had a gorge view. They only have 31 gorge view... More

Found this park and stopped for the views of the Gorge and a picnic. Views are great and picnic area is very nice with plenty of shade and tables. Restrooms are clean. Gift shop was not open which was odd in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. Only negative was the awful condition of the Cliff Trail. They really need... More

I've had the opportunity to visit Hawks next in winter and in fall right before the leaves really start to turn colors and fall. The beauty is amazing. I wish I could have been when the leaves are fully turned and ready to fall. This would be an amazing ride on the motorcycle.
