On a previous visit I was really quite enthralled by the Kaikyo Yume Tower; "beautiful weather and spectacular views of the Kanmon Strait to the East and West and Mojiko opposite". However, revisiting Shimonoseki some 18-months later the decidedly inclement weather dampened the illusion somewhat. Whilst heavy rain impeded the views of the Kanmon Bridge and Mojiko opposite, the absence of other visitors and the closure of the cafe/restaurant on the floor below the observation floor conveyed the impression that the facility was beginning to struggle. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the visit and the half-price admission for foreign visitors does provide good value. Worthy of a visit, but better when the weather is perfect!

This is well worth a visit and great value at just 300 Yen with the tourist discount, don’t forget to take your passport. The lift goes up to the 29th and 28th floors and gives a fabulous 360 degree panorama view over the city. The building itself is a very impressive piece of modern skyscraper architecture and well worth a photo on its own, fabulous!

The view from this tower really helps you understand the geography of this region where Honshu and Kyushu almost meet. I enjoyed going up in the late afternoon and getting a good look in the daytime and then just sitting and waiting as it got dark and all the city lights came on. It is an easy walk from Shimonoseki station.

Make sure to go on a day when it is not cloudy. When I was there the view was spectacular and I could see as far as my eyes would let me. The elevator up is nice, it is glass so you can see how high you are going as you go to the top. The staff were all very polite.

Been here with my husband on 20th Mar, 2019 and totally fall in love with this place. It's rather quiet in the evening but still beautiful. I recommend everyone should come to this place to watch the sunset.

We had 2 hours to kill before our train, so we decided to go here, We had zero expectation but it was rather fabulous! First off, there is a discounted foreigner admission for 300 yen instead of 600 yen for adults, and I think it was 150 yen for a child? Make sure you bring your passport with you to get this fare. They do check. And there is a small locker in the front lobby where you can leave your luggage with a deposit of 100 yen, which you will get back after.

The view is amazing! The staff was also great, too, some spoke English.

It does not cost you much for a great sightseeing here. I would definitely recommend it, for sure!

We alighted at Shimonseki station and it is a short 10 mins walk, conspicuous as this is a tall building. Up at the 30th floor, one gets a fantastic introduction to Shimonoseki and surroundings. Great view of the Kanmon strait area. Tourists get a 50% discount, paying 300-yen instead of the 600-yen.
The Kaikyō Yume Tower (海峡ゆめタワー) dominates the city of Shimonoseki and is the tallest tower in western Japan. Standing 153 metres tall. The spherical glass covered observatory (21 meters in diameter) allows for a clear uninterrupted view. 8,700 planes of glass cover the outside of the tower. The elevators move at a brisk pace of 120 meters a minute. The current wind speed and sway of the tower is displayed on the 30th floor as well.
We were there on a Tuesday noon time and it was drizzling quite heavily. Not many visitors and they all appeared local. It was paramount as we took wonderful pictures 360 deg. But the rain has muted the photographic effect and visibility was reduced.
Nevertheless it was a good experience for us both!

Fantastic view of the bridge. Did not know Kyushu and Honshu are so near to each other until I was up there.

It opened at 9:30 a.m. and up at the 30th floor, I got a fantastic introduction to Shimonoseki and surroundings. Great view of the Kanmon strait area. Seniors over 65-years, upon showing proof of age get a 50% discount, paying 300-yen vs 600-yen.

Having walked from Mojiko Station, crossing the Kanmon Straits via the pedestrian tunnel underneath and continuing walking almost all the way to Shimonoseki Station, it was a fitting to review the extent of my lengthy trek from atop the Kaikyo Yume Tower.
Despite barely losing sight of the tower throughout my 12km trek, when arrived at the base of the tower I had great difficulty in finding the entrance. Approaching along Port Road, the tower appears to sit above a multi-storey car park and you have to circumnavigate the whole block to find a flight of stairs/escalators on the Railway Station side which lead up to the elevated Koryu Square where the entrance is located.
Half price admission for Foreigners (Yen300) on production of passport and you are swiftly whisked up to the 30th floor of the spherical glass covered observatory atop the tower (153m max.).
Beautiful weather; spectacular views of the Kanmon Straits to the East and West and Mojiko opposite. A perfect end to a great day!
