We visited the gardens here based on recommendations in the Eyewitness Travel Series on Japan, which highlighted the significance or these gardens. The gardens are no doubt historically important, but they seem neglected and could use tender loving care from a team of gardeners. Zuisenji is out of the way in Kamakura but worth the effort to get there. It is in a lovely wooded setting, with beautiful gardens. For me the highlight of the temple is the rock garden, very old but restored during the 20th century. It is extraordinarily stark and austere, but quite inspiring. It's quite different from the other temple gardens because it has a clearly wild aspect, and I loved that.

I have visited Kamakura many times and was very impressed with this find - a stunning and peaceful temple in Eastern Kamakura that is little known by tourists. Took a short 25 minutes trip from Yokohama after business meetings to enjoy Kamakura. This temple / garden is very peaceful, also called flower temple. Lots of greenery and fresh air. Worthwhile to visit
