This old temple is really lovely. The moss covered stairs were really beautiful to look at. Nice view of the city from atop as well. Small but still impressive.

Very old temple in great condition. The original steps are there but now unused. The temple buildings have thatched roofs which are outstanding. There is a trail but I wasn't sure where it went so I just went up a little and was rewarded with...More

It's a beautiful and unique small temple as well as the oldest temple in kamakura. A beautiful green stairway (closed for traffic). Worth a visit as it is very unique!

This temple captured everything I expected from a temple in Japan. It was quaint and peaceful. The moss covered stairs helped set the mood from the start, and you can explore inside the temple.

Very quiet and picturesque. The moss covered staircases (too dangerous and slippery, out of bounds) lead up to the temple. The staircases on the side are very steep, so be careful. For more, check "hiddenjapanguide".

This is the oldest temple in Kamakura but it is still very much a working temple, not a museum piece. There are many Japanese people come here to worship as well as tourists. It is in a very dramatic setting on a steep hillside, and...More

This Buddhist temple is absolutely stunning. There are several flights of stairs that lead up to the temple, with the last set being completely covered in moss (this set is blocked off from visitors). The stairs are worth the walk! The temple also lets you...More

I cannot understand how this temple doesn't have better reviews. The access to the interior of the Main Hall is the most amazing thing with a very intimate look at the interior of a Buddhist Temple so far unparalleled in my Japan travels. Simply stunning.
