This little monastery is set in lovely countryside in interesting gardens with some quirky features. I enjoyed the tranquil atmosphere of this holy place. The building itself is significant and colourful (not as overpowering as some we visited in the Balkans). The floor was particularly interesting, partly mosaic and some exposing earlier foundations. I think we were lucky because it was quiet - only our party of 15 - as I understand coachloads visit - not so much for the church but for the wine. We were taken to see the cellars and sample the wines - the chardonnay was my favourite and the sweet red was gorgeous but I think I could drink it like fruit juice!! There was no fee to enter the monastery but there was for the wine tasting.

We were blown away by this monastery. Beautiful grounds, church inside was colorful and unique as a Serbian orthodox churchl. A gentleman that spoke english caught us right away upon entering ....as the monk outside was trying to greet us and chat- we did not understand anything except his warm smile. :) The guide showed us the church itself with stories and history- there is the 600 year old hand of Helen here! He toured us through the new and old cellars and let us taste really delicious wine (and award winning i might add) and a rosemary grappa the monks make. They also make honey, olive oil, and a version of cognac. He was super informative and just, in general, GREAT company. When we left, several monks said bye to us. Just lovely attitudes and so friendly here. We loved visiting Trebinje- it is a gem and we hope to return someday to this monastery.

This is genuine wine tasting as the wines are actually made here in the monastery premises.
The wine cellar is vast and the barrels are huge!
After a quick look around you get to taste the wine. The wines are excellent! You can buy wines and other products in the shop.
Well worth a visit.

We visited the monastery and had a guided tour around the church before we entered the cellars and got to taste some wine. The church is beautifull and so is the cellars. The wine was very good, you pay 3 euro for each glas you taste. Our guide explained how the producing of wine has helped financally the other monasterys in reparing ect the monasterys and how many lokals now has a job there. Remeber that there is a dresscode for entering. Long skirt for the women and trousers for the men. No tank tops is allowed, but tshirt covering your shoulders is ok

After visiting the amazing Monastery of Tvrdoš you should definitely visit its wine cellars. Cellars of the Tvrdoš Monastery still keep old traditional ways of keeping wine. It has a great variety of local wines which you can taste or even buy. If you're visiting the town of Trebinje and you're a wine-lover, than you should definitely visit these excellent cellars.

If you get a chance to stop here, take the tour and go in the cellar and see the very recent upgrade to the tasting room, very nice people and the wines were great. Nice little place off the main highway.
