We find the museum in the upper area of the city, very close to the elevator. The outside is very striking with huge multicolored masks that invite you to take photos. Unfortunately we could not enter due to lack of time, because we were only in Salvador de Bahía for a few hours since we arrived by cruise ship.

The Casa do Carnaval is next to the Cathedral Basilica of São Salvador, between Terreiro de Jesus and Praça da Sé. A must-visit for anyone who goes to Salvador and wants to discover the origins of this one of the biggest cultural events in Brazil. The space divided into four floors tells the story of the festivities in a visual and sensorial journey. It has many models, clothes and instruments loaned by party artists, photos and historical documents. Visitors can characterize themselves and learn party rhythms on large screens installed in a dark room. An individual trip can be made with video projections using headphones. Works by visual artists represent carnival through paintings, sculptures and masks that refer to old carnivals. There are also 200 dolls made of ceramic, which represent typical figures of the festivities. For those who like to research carnival, in the basement there is a vast amount of digital content for research. And on the roof, visitors can enjoy an area with a beautiful view of the Baía de Todos-os-Santos and a good part of Cidade Baixa.

Beautiful place, extremely colorful, happy. The entrance costs 20 reais. It is beautiful, clothing is shown, there are recreations, outfits, images, instruments, books. Very complete. I criticize that the audio guide is in English and Portuguese. Brazil is located on a Spanish-speaking continent and is part of Mercosur, so at least in Spanish they would also have to have a translation. That would give excellence to the place.

This place is like a museum and learning center of sorts. It has many of the beautiful costumes used in Bahia carnival and a great history lesson of carnival. It also has an outdoor cafe with stunning views. There is also a visual arts dance theater that is so cool. Definitely a must see.

Having so much in Salvador, this Bahia carnival museum shows little in two or three small interactive rooms on the first floor and nothing more. On the second floor there is a movie room with dancing videos and on the third floor there is a terrace with an excellent view of the bay. The entrance costs 20 reais. I think there could be more.

Interactive museum full of references with lots of music, costumes and chronology of the Bahian and Brazilian carnival. On Wednesdays, visiting is free. It's worth visiting the terrace where there is a cafe with a beautiful view of the sea

Well laid-out museum with helpful staff and wonderful displays. Loads of videos with interesting material and synchronised narrative on audio sets. We spent a fascinating hour or two there and it explained so many things that had mystified us about Carnival. We loved it!

What a sensational experience, I was moved in each room by the representation. It's rich in details, stories, music...and it's even cooler for those from Salvador, it's like reliving a little of the delight that is our carnival. Thanks a lot! 🎉🫶🏽
I went on Wednesday, which has free access, and I'll be back more often with time to enjoy it a little more and have lunch there.

Very unpleasant experience at La Casa do Carnaval for us! I am sure the exhibition is fascinating (if you have access to the audioguides - which we couldn't, we never why), but the staff was quite hostile and expedious, maybe because we had children with us.
