Disappointing gallery with most unfriendly staff who obviously were not interested in welcoming anyone who could not speak Portuguese. The cafe was closed with no explanation and we wondered why anyone would visit unless there was a special exhibition. The most glorious aspect in my opinion was the internal wooden staircase which was architecturally beautiful but sadly blocked off and... More

Mid December 2016 still pretty much all rooms closed for remodeling... I would not call this a museum. Restaurant open. Pitty.

This place is a very historical place (slave first "welcoming" place arriving in Salvador). So has a very high symbolic and emotional charge. But it deserves a lot of investment more to be a remarquable place. And what a strange choice to put a MAM place there :-((

This Museum of Modern Art is located in an old sugar processing factory complex along the water. It is very picturesque and interesting. One building houses temporary exhibits. The main building houses alternating selections from the collection of modern art. This area is very small and manageable. Be sure to go to the restaurant, which our guide says has excellent... There were limited exhibits and nothing interesting to look at. In fact we find the bay at the back more interesting. There were colorful houses outside and some youngster paddle boating. Not recommended

A highlight of my Salvador visit this year was going to Jam do MAM, a concert on the piers next to the beautiful historic building MAM. To be honest, I didn't do inside the museum because it was closed by the time I arrived but based on what I saw, I'd go just to see the historic architecture beautifully restored.... More

Ironically modern art has made me thirsty to read some history. The grandeur of this place is amazing, what a spot too. Outlook over a placid bay, serene and beautiful. I missed doing the sculpture walk, from the top this looks awesome...there is always tomorrow. The restaurant is so incredible I will give it its own review.

This museum should be visited in paralel with the Arte Sacra Santa Teresa museum, this last being the best sacred art museum in Brazil
