The Basilica de Nossa Senhora de Nazare is the main church in Belem, and is the focal point of the Círio de Nazaré – one of the largest religious festivals in the world. The church is in excellent condition and is obviously very well maintained. The exterior of the church is imposing and beautiful. However, the inside of the Basilica... More

While in Belem, you need visit that place. There's a good and beautiful sidewalk and square in front of. The most important date it's Curio of Nazareth in October. The church it's very beautiful and rustic too, a quiet place sometimes and safe.

Decided to visit the Basilica. Walked there. Streets were busy and full of street food outlets. Basilica was beautiful and worth the walk. Free entry and not highly decorated as some. Lovely mosaics and decorations.

I love visiting churches and this church is a beautiful one. It's not a very large one, but great attention was paid to detail. Worth a visit.

The religious cult to "Our Lady of Nazareth" started in Belém by the beginning of the 18th Century, following the discovery of the sacred image on the banks of "Igarapé Murutucu" (a small river). From then on, the cult increased immensely, being today the most important expression of Roman Catholic faith in Brazil. The "Círio de Nazaré" festival attracts over... More

Our cruise ship anchored off the town of Belem, Brazil and we tendered about 30 minutes to shore. Belem is situated at the mouth of the Amazon River and features modern buildings and skyscrapers as well as a rich history of Colonial architecture. Like many of Belem's churches, the Basilica of Our Lady of Nazareth was built with proceeds from... More

Even if you are not Catholic, the place, is quite something. The architecture of it (when compared to other churches in other parts of the world), the light of the church, the altar, and the ceiling .. nice, very nice indeed. The accoustic is also something!

A very renowned place of worship of Virgin Mary (Nazaré), this is a large church where locals believe trully in the Virgin Mary power of healing thus creating a sense of devotion to Virgin Mary of Nazaré that is pair to Fatima or Lourdes. Incredible place to visit and pray.

This church is a very beautiful and important church in Belem. Home of their mother saint, Our Lady of Nazareth, it is decorated in gold trims, and the grounds around it have beautiful vegetation and trees.
