The view was incredible, but even in the "executive" cabin, the seats were old and uncomfortable for the 3.5 hours trip. The restaurant in our package "Emporio" was only okay, nothing memorable. It is something to do once in a lifetime, no more.

A fantastic journey from Curitiba to Morretes passing in the middle of the Atlantic forest. A big thank to our train guide Filipe and the Serra verde express guides Flávia and Moura ( which I recommended to buy the package/ transport from your place to the train station/ lunch and a unforgettable visit around the small towns) they provide us... I'm not a train aficionado, but I loved this slow train ride from Curitiba to Morretes, through what remains of the world's Atlantic Rainforest (4% now left in southeastern Brazil), which the UN is trying to preserve. Its an eye-popping ride, looking out the open windows at the beautiful rolling hills, deep valleys and verdant rainforest vegetation. The train track... More

Curitiba is an unremarkable town that is not worth visiting, except for one reason: it is the departure point for the truly stunning journey on the Serra Verda Express. The train leaves early each morning, slowly winding down through lush jungle over three hours from 1,000m above to nearly sea level. The cliff edge views along the route are as... More

The scenery from the train is really very nice. However, I personally would enjoy it much better to do it in a way that would allow me to enjoy a particular piece of it, to breathe the air of the woods, and to have my legs touch the soil.

It took a long time to get out of town and into the real scenery. This is not an 'Express' train. In each carriage someone gives a voice over of what we were seeing (but we don't speak Portuguese so I really have no idea what she was saying!). We all given little cardboard carriages with lots of packeted snacks... More

First tip: make sure you get an English speaking guide or you will spend all day with a blank stare and looking around confused. Second tip: Your comfort and seat on the train depends on the amount you pay. Third tip: Spend the extra little bit of money and get your lunch included. You go to a restaurant and eat... More

An amazing and unique trip into the Atlantic rainforest. Incredible views of a really beautiful part of Brazil. Sadly, 50% of the workers who built this track died in the process. The tour guide spoke only Portuguese but I didn't find it a problem just read about the history while on my phone while I was travelling. Took a tour... More

I love nature and the Serra Verde goes through some beautiful mountains. Still, I rate it as a 1 because it is not a good value for the time and cost involved. It is $66 U.S. round trip. You ride the train for 3 hours and get maybe 20-30 minutes of nice scenery. The rest of the time all you... More

After having quite a nice day, with a very relaxing lunch in Morretes, we went to catch the 3pm train service back to Curitiba. We had been expecting a relaxing ride through the forest, with impressive views. However, unless you sit on the right side of the train, you actually don't get to see a lot. Everything of any interest... More
