We were in Ilha Grande as part of a tour from our cruise ship. Really pretty, laid back area with a moderate hiking trail that takes you by this now defunct aqueduct on your way to the waterfall, beaches and old prison. You might see...More

It's a treat to find some industrial archaeology in such an unexpected place. Difficult to photograph without a very wide angle lens but well worth the walk.

The structure itself is impressive especially when you consider that is was built in 1893. It is 100 meters long and 30 meters tall. It was built by slaves at the request of Emperor Dom Pedro II to supply water to the quarantine hospital. At...More

We went on a very hot summers day. We walked past the aqueduct, we stopped to read the description plaque but there's not much else here.

The aqueduto is built on the trail to one of the islands waterfalls and makes for a great snap/backdrop. There is some information nearby telling you about its history.

This aqueduct can be seen on the T1 hiking route. Don't think I would go out of my way to see it but was a nice addition to the route which also had a natural pool, old prison and two beaches.

It's not worth it to walk there specifically, but if you are on your way to the beach or waterfall, it makes for a nice pit stop and picture.

A surprisingly grandiose construction that can be found on a nice walking trail about 20 minutes away from the main port on Isla Grande.

Easy walk to the aqueduct, very easy trail. Interesting to look at how nature is taking over. Don't bother with the path down to the "pools", stick with main trail. It gets a bit steep past the aqueduct but is otherwise a light trail.

Quite a nice place to visit, but it's mostly the walk to it (and further on) that makes it good. It's an easy walk, not steep at all, just 25 minutes out of Abrao.
