We were a bit disappointed that this was not a real fort anymore. There was only a lookout on the sea and the museum was closed.

Low-key with lovely views of the bay and islands, especially in late-afternoon light. Funny English signs about oyster danger! Man-eating? But actually the risk is of cutting yourself, so be careful when you walk down to the promontory below the fort.

This old defence fort and observation point provides panoramic views of Paraty and surrounds. It has well-kept grounds and gardens, offering visitors some quiet and solitude. Inside the building are some historic displays as well as local crafts. It's a 20 minute walk from the centre of Parary and provides a lovely, scenic walk.

Would only really suggest going if you have time on your hands. We did so we walked the short distance from the historic area. Its a nice walk, the views are good and at the right time of day you can spot many different birds. However, the museum itself isn't that remarkable. There were two small sections to the museum,... A pleasant walk from the town center. About half an hour. Lovely views from the top which look out over the bay and the town. Very safe as there were 3 policemen stationed at various points on the windy path up to the fort. We didn't see in the small museum as it was closed on the day we went..

Don't waste much time in the museum, nothing was in any sort of order and there was no helpful explanations of any of the materials shown in the tiny museum. The view is is definitely worth it, so go for the view and not the history. Note that it can be very hot, although the path is shaded. The walk... More

Building is nothing special, but the location is nice. There are nicer sights in the area, so this can be easily skipped without losing much. Bring insect repellant!

Don't expect to see a great museum. Brazil has no investments on it and the employees are often on strike (true!). You must have your own thoughts and knowledge about it to embrace the location beauty. One must understand that this had once been the most important and one of the strongest defences in Brazil to protect all the gold... More

Paraty is trying to be recognized as UNESCO world heritage site, so its authorities should care about the conditions of its historical sites, such as this beautiful Fort. Amazing views from its top as well.
