The museum rooms and rooms at the Copacana Fort present history in a didactic way for those who know the Portuguese language, but it seems that the place is not prepared to receive international tourists. There are no signs or explanations even in English available.

Furthermore, the view of Copacabana beach is beautiful and it is possible to have a coffee at the “Colombo café”, for those who are willing to stand in line.

The museum is at the southern end of the Copacabana, and where the Colombo is. I think most people going there is for the cafes and meals.

The Fort charges a nominal fee to get in and they don’t take credit card. When we asked if USD would do, the guard kindly let us in. Thank you.

The ground is neatly kept. We walked around briefly after lunch. It's scene.

If you are into history, you will love this place. You can visit the Fort, enjoy the views and have a delicious brunch at Confeitaria Colombo.

We really entered the area for a walk along the front there and the view but went in to have a look at the fort as we had the ticket. There are lots of information boards in the fort but all in Portuguese. The gun battery was quite interesting . Not really my cup of tea but the area is beautiful.

We chose to go there because it was close to where we were staying. It was easily accessible by public transportation and short walk. The views were breathtaking, and there is a small museum inside the fort with interesting information about the time period when the fort was built and used. There are 2 cafes within the fort grounds that have good service and coffee and refreshments. I highly recommend it if you are in Rio and have a couple of hours to spare.

There is a pavilion with a history museum (permanent and temporary exhibitions), a restaurant, a cafe, a souvenir shop and an original fortification on top of which there are defensive cannons and ... beautiful views of Copacabana.

Price 6 reais. Free on Tuesdays.

Sightseeing from 1 hour to 2 hours - depending on your curiosity.

This is 1 of 6 forts.

This Fort is set on peninsula at the end of Copacabana beach near Arporador beach. It still has the Army there. Entrance is by a very cheap ticket or free on Tuesday, closed Monday. Within the fort there are cafes and restaurants but you can only access these if you have entrance ticket. There are plenty of benchs to sit on to admire the sea and beach view. If you walk to the end there are steps up to the turret roof where you can see large guns poking out. You can go inside the fort museum to see the workings of the guns and the living conditions. There is not a lot of Information in English but it still is worth the visit.
Note don’t go in the morning at the weekend there were long queues to get in. We went at 5pm. The museum closes at 6pm but the fort itself does not close till 8pm

some people are unaware of this attraction, even because it is not advertised as it belongs to the Brazilian army! The prices are ridiculously low but the visit even for foreigners is very surprising. Canhoes from the time of the first war and the view of the beach from another angle are worth the visit. Having a beer or a drink at dusk I win that beach is one of my definitions of peace of mind!

This is an interesting area to check out and it didn't cost anything to enter. The only thing I found to be a disappointment is they made me put away my GoPro and I couldn't use my DSLR. It is worth checking out just for the view at the end and most of it is stroller accessible. I don't recommend the restaurants in the fort, they are over priced and not very good. Another thing to note is this is yet another "tourist" attraction that has no information in English. You would think if Rio wanted tourists they would use more than one language when producing information. It gets frustrating. So you can see some neat stuff while you are there but you have to guess at what it is unless you speak Portuguese which to me is a bit pointless if you want to learn anything.
