I strongly recommend Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil for anyone looking for a diverse and varied artistic entertainment. At the same place for free or very low cost, you can have access to cinema, theater's plays, music concerts, library and exhibitions. If you're walking in the area, it worth your while to stop by, get a coffee and take at... More

Best time to visit is during the weekends in order to avoid downtown traffic. Exhibitions change constantly.

The center is located in city center near church of Candelaria. The exposition center brings to the city temporary exhibitions from all over. It's very calm and suitable for all ages. Ask in your hotel before decide to go their what expo they in the moment, any way if you are in the city center you may pass near by... More

CCBB is one of those places that are remarkable, not just because of the quality of the expositions, but the place itself is worthy to visit. The main entrance, the dome and all the architecture is amazing. The best of all, it is FREE!

The "CCBB", as it is called by locals, is the best art exposition site in the city. It was the first agency for Brazil´s first bank (Banco do Brasil), so it is also a historical building. If you are Downtown and like art, it is a nice place to go. It is also good to flee from all the traffic... More

A very nice building in downtown Rio, where there are always interesting exhibitions to be seen. The auditoriums are very confortable, and concerts (not frequentrly) and plays can be seen for affordable prices.

Brazil surprises me so much. The things you think you'll hate, you'll actually love - just like this one!! From the outside it doesn't seem like much but when you walk in it's actually an amazing building. Both in what it holds and the architecture. Lots of expeditions and events are held here so be sure to check what's happening!

Nice place in the center of rio de janeiro, easy to reach (the metro leaves you 3 blocks and many buses pass through the door). I think it is ideal for a day that is raining. The cutural center is cute, the architecture of the place is spectacular but I personally expected something more. There were only three samples in... More

I have been going there since the early 1990s. There´s always a great exhibition or a play to see. The bookstore is also good, although the coffee shop needs improvement.

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
