we spent a couple of days on this beach recharging our batteries and trying our best not to get sunburned - which is not easy feat in that environment! It is a family oriented beach that is just enormous. Expect vendors to stop by your chair about every 30 seconds - the only downside of the beach!

The area of Rio that borders on the Atlantic ocean is famous for its beaches. There are three -- this one with a wavy sidewalk, Ipanema, and Leblon. All are beautiful. All are pricey -- when you think homes/apartments think milliones of Reales. Some nice hotels along these beaches.

We visited the beach on a tour from Princess cruises and I truly wish I could have laid on that beach. It's absolutely breathtaking but I did get to dip my feet in the sand. I would like to go back and spend some time there

Reviewed Ipanema, liked it better as less used by locals, boardwalk very busy, zippered pockets a must, our apartment was one block away, very busy on Saturday and Sunday and stalls open. Folks on the boardwalk 24 hours a day, eating, sleeping, walking, drinking, all kinds of police, "life guard" stations here and Ipanema [6 on each beach during the... More

try the another beach because the amount of people trying to get you to buy stuff is crazy and by the end of your stay you start screaming at them lol

Great beach. Ocean was very warm, although as always with big waves. It is possible to rent chairs and umbrellas.

Very popular central beach in the Rio. Weekends packed with locals and families. Famous sidewalk with typical Portuguese ornament. Feels good to have a walk after the day on the beach.

What a beach. Exceeded my high expectation. Great to walk along and the sea was so warm to swim in. Better if your hotel has lounger facilities & umbrellas on the actual beach.

It's one of those things you have to do in life. We heard a lot of bad things about criminal people before we went here and the only thing we meet was happiness

Staying in Copacabana

Neighbourhood Profile
Copacabana
The rowdy Copacabana is one of the most traditional and old areas from Rio de Janeiro. This neighbourhood is a blend of Brazilian soul - crowded, rowdy and traditional. This neighbourhood has a bit of everything: bars with music, pubs, street fairs, chaotic streets, and many shops. All these things and more live side-by-side. There are options for all price points and tastes. However, the most powerful draw in Copacabana is still the fantastic view of the coast and the incredible beaches.
