A quiet refuge on a Saturday afternoon, we were pressed with the interior decoration, with emphasis on gold leaf! This monastery church is up a hill very close to downtown Rio. Certainly worth a visit!

The monastery is easy to get to and the church is very decorative in side. We went to listen to the Gregorian chants at the evening service - Vespers. There were about 20 monks who sang or chanted most of the service.

The entrances to São Bento are on Rua Dom Gerardo. The first entrance looks a bit like an entry to a parking area, has some small signs footprints the monastery and leads to a road you can walk up the hill. The second entrance at...More

Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born.
With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical

proof that the old and the new can live together

all major companies house their offices. However, the
region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like
