The exhibits were not very interesting - it almost seemed more like a history museum than an art museum. The view from the top looking down on Praça Mauá was quite nice. The 10 reais student ticket was a good price, but the free museums I've been to in Rio are more worth the time.

If you are going to Rio, you should go to Museu do Amanhã. Besides all interesting expositions , the scenery is worth to be seen.

One of the worst museums I've been to. One floor about a historic woman whom I couldn't figure out why was so deserving of attention besides money, and one okay floor of contemporary art. The photography floor was closed. Freezing. Horrible.

This venue offers great views on the harbour and the 'museum of tomorrow'. The architecture is a nice integration of old and new. Inside the museum the collection is rather limited and of little interest for non-cariocas.

Well there were different floors... the first one was about old colonial stuff the second more about modern but overall there are only a few pieces... and well i am not much into art but still a bit interested and as the title says there was nothing special... but on the highest floor you will have a nice view... which... The museum needs improvement to show Rio's contributions to the arts. It lacks a full representation of Rio's great artists, which can be better appreciated at other museums in Rio and Sao Paulo. Labels in English, French and Spanish would be helpful for international visitors. I didn't notice any docents or others who might have helped inform the visitors. There... More

Mar is located at Praça Mauá, in two buildings, one for exibitions and the other for art education. By sbway 10 minutes walking from Av. President Vrgas exit from Uruguaiana Station.

Went on a Tuesday, so it was free. Wanted to go to museu de amanha, but it was packed, so we went here instead. Favorite thing was the "favela" installation on the main floor. The rest of the exhibits seem disjointed. I'm glad I didn't pay to enter.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Downtown Rio is the place where this city was born. With modern skyscrapers sharing space with historical buildings and landmarks, this neighbourhood is living proof that the old and the new can live together harmoniously. As you would expect, downtown is where all major companies house their offices. However, the region isn’t restricted to businesses. Gems such like the “Paço Imperial,” which is a cultural centre that used to serve as a residence for governors of Brazil, can be found here. Pedra do Sal, a Monday night street party, is also in this neighbourhood. This landmark is the birthplace of samba and is famous for its “roda de sambas” (“dance circles”). Stop in for one and get closer to discovering where Brazilian happiness comes from.
