My daughter and I hit a few of the clothes stores in Ipanema. Lots to choose from and plenty of ways to spend money.

Easy access to all local stores and everything is walking distance. The public transport going up and down the streets are excellent. The restaurants and bars in the side streets are excellent and can get rather full and busy during lunchtime. Great fresh fruit juice shops all along the street corners. Just stop by and get some freshly squeezed juice.... More

Aimed at the local area, being more affluent the prices are higher than other areas and you are unlikely to find a bargin. There are more designer level shops than other high streets and still a scattering of the cheeper chain stores. Worth a walk around if you have plenty of time in Rio, as there are some specialty shops... More

Lots of shops here but the prices are very high compared to UK prices and nothing special. The t-shirts were designer prices in normal shops. Better to goto saara for similar quality at a third of the price.

Shopping is not earth shattering and in my case very difficult due to the almost total lack of english speaking people - notwithstanding, very interesting

Ipanema is acwell known beach in Rio. Do you know the song Girl from Ipanema? The beach is beautiful, good restaurants and if you are thirsty ....... Have a juice in one of several juice bars. Try the Acerola, or the pineaple with mint or the sweet fruta do conde. The Acai has a lot of anti-oxidants. Nice boutiques and... More

Want to relax...this is the place to be. We had 10 days of relaxation here, strolling along the beach and all it has to offer. Sundays take a wander to the hippy markets where you can spend a whole day there. Or have some lunch at the many wonderful places to dine. At least one day the Ipanema hotel (... More

We were quite concerned about safety walking around Ipanema, but thankfully there was no need - just make sure you aren't screaming TOURIST and you'll be fine. Lots of little shops & restaurants to wander around, plus street vendors flogging cheap (and quite good) designer sunglasses and watches. We ate in a fantastic churrascaria nearby - recommended if you like... More

This is certainly one of the prettiest beaches in Rio, very clean. They have many food and drink vendors, beach rentals, street artists and some incredible views as well as water and beach sports.

There are many shopping malls in Rio but Street shopping is still a pleasure in Rio, especially in Ipanema. Dozens and dozens of small business, shopping arcades and street shops stretched for approximately 3 kilometers. Good deals, despite of the “crazy” exchange rate in Brazil.
