Entrar em contato com as obras e a Historia da Ilha e do ultimo baile do Imperio foi genial! Seeing the art and the Island History and also about the last ball of the late Brazilian Empire is wonderful!

When you land in Rio's domestic airport (Santos Dumont) you may notice a curious, small green building, which seems completely out of place in the Guanabara Bay. A gothic palace with tower, arches and stainmed glass windows. There is a tour for a guided visit of the place. Ilha Fiscal was so named because the government decided to build a... More

Its beautiful. And you get a neat view of the naval base and rio... but the tour takes about an hour but the tour length is 2 and a half hours. The guided portion was only in portuguese. There were two big exhibits, one was in a dining room/parlor from a party in the 1890s, the other was about the... More

Ilha Fiscal is a historical place. It is a good place to visit in Rio in a sunny day when it is not hot.

Visiting Rio? This is a must, from there you will be in a unique and fantastic point of view from the City and Bay area. Do not miss the Museum at the waiting area (normally you will be waiting for a boat to get you there) and see some aspects of the eighteen hundreds in Rio.

To go to ilha fiscal you have to buy the ticket at museo maritimo o naval. Is a palace with a nice green color where the last dance of Imperio was celebrated before the proclamation of the republic. You can go inside, but is not as big as it looks. Nice to visit.

We went there on a rainy sunday. Tours depart from the Navy's museum 3 times per day, 12:30, 2PM and 3:30PM. We took the 2PM one, it costs R$20 (USD10) and takes about 2 hours. It's a nice building, but you can only see a few rooms as it is still used by the Navy.

All in all, the palace (used to be Rio de Janeiro's custom's office. is nice but not to say it is an extraordinary experience. The one thing that makes the place special is that the last ball of the empire was held at Ilha fiscal... The painting representing that last event, that hangs in the upper room, is a reproduction.

We tried to go to the island, but weren't able to find where the boat took off. There was a building that looked like a boat terminal, but it was closed (and had been for a while). We asked at the ticket desk of the Niteroi ferry but they spoke no English and we only gathered it wasn't possible. Half... More
