We enjoyed the hike and the view. We saw the Christ and we gkad we did as our stay in rio was mostly cloudy and rainy.
We were disapointed rhat the ticket seller at the entrance short changed us . He said that he would give us our change when we would get back out. Funny thing that the staff changed when we got back so no change. If one does this with a few tourist at 2 reis in their pocket during the day it becomes extra revenue. It s not a lot but still shamefull and dishonest. If you go bring the correct reis 4 each . We went February 13 around 2pm

Located at one end of Copa Cabana Beach this is a beautiful old fort with stunning views of the beach and Sugarloaf. The walk up is easy (30 minutes) and entry to the fort is free. On route and at the top you will be greeted by monkeys. It wasn’t busy, its very safe (located in a military facility) and in our opinion an undiscovered gem.

My wife and I walked from our hotel (Hilton) to here one morning.
It's very easy to find. The walk up to the top is quite strenuous but mostly shaded by the forest.
We were lucky enough to see some of the monkeys as we walked up the path.
The views from the top are stunning and well worth the effort to get there. There is some interesting information about its history inside the Fort.
When we went it was very quiet. We had the top to ourselves for most of the time.
Thoroughly worthwhile walk, completely free of charge. Highly recommend.

The real reason to visit Forte Duque De Caxias is to walk through the rainforest on Morro de Leme to a excellent view of Rio. We saw humming birds, eagles and marmosets on our walk. The view at the top was excellent and the fort was an interesting addition too.

Walking through the forest on a cobbled road felt miles away from the congestion and noise of Rio, yet on reaching the fort at the top, the views of Copacabana, the Sugar Loaf and Corcovado were spectacular. The fort has a fascinating history and is well preserved. Be prepared though for a small modern fort. The walk up and back down was accompanied by delightful families of Marmosets. And to go to this attraction is free!

this is a place you would not normally go to but I HIGHLY recommend the trip.. you go to the end of Copacabana at the opposite end of bay where the Copacabana fort is... There is an entrance at the military base... once paying the entrance fee you hike for about 30 minutes to the top and are awarded with an amazing view of sugar loaf and Copacabana beach. I think the view is fantastic and definitely worth the hike. I did the hike with my 2 young boys so its not too strenuous.

Peaceful, serene and amazing views. I have walked Leme Hill several times over the past month and every walk has been wonderful. Take water and I have found an umbrella better than a hat for providing some shade at the top.

Forte Duque de Caxias atop the beautiful Morro de Leme is perhaps the most underrated attraction in Rio. While everyone runs to Pao de Acucar and Cristo Redentor, the fort receives very few visitors. The views here are magnificent and the trail up to the top is safe, guarded and full of natural wonders. The fort is a military facility so it is very safe. When we entered, paying a couple of dollars, a couple of young soldiers showed us the way to the trail. There a female soldier, leading a small group of cadets, stopped and said: Thanks for coming and welcome. What a wonderful and classy thing to do, we knew then we had made the right decision to go to Leme and skip Pao de Acucar. We went up, encountering very few people and running into several families of marmosets and some gorgeous blue butterflies. The ocean crashing down below and a coastal forest opening as we climbed up to the fort. The fort itself is quite interesting and the exhibits well curated. However, the views of Copacabana and Guanabara Bay are incredible, especially because there is no one to fight for a view or space. In my view, this is a wonderful under visited place. Simply magnificent!

After several years leaving in Rio, I've finally visited the fort. I don't understand why the place is not as popular as other turistic attractions in Rio. The place is indeed a bit more remote than copacabana fort, but it is still of easy access. You buy at ticket (~6reais) at a ticket station at the end of leme beach and start your climb right there. It's a ~20min walk through a path with pavement, so quite easy to climb. The view alt-there is amazing (see the pictures). Totally worthy it!

Wonderful views and a steep climb up to the top - but really only a 30 minute walk up. Take some water - and enjoy the views of Copacabana and the port entrance from the top.

A bilheteria e a entrada ficam do lado esquerdo. A subida é super tranquila e agradável. Mais ou menos 30 minutos e tem uns banquinhos no caminho para descansar caso seja necessário. Mas é tão agradável que você nem chega a ficar cansado.
