Primarily a recreation area for Cariocas, the 5-mile pathway circling the lake is popular for walkers, skaters, and cyclists. In the evening there may be live music, and kiosks serving drinks and food.
Despite the financial crisis and urban chaos that Rio de Janeiro has become, the neighborhood and the site is still magnifivent. Hills, lagoon, fauna and still a fairly well kept lakeside avenue make the whole wonderful. Private police helps keep the site fairly safe, comparing...More
Come to this lake in the evening, rent a bike or walk around the ~7KM trail - experience the lovely wind and breathtaking sights of the lake and the city of Rio in its background. It's a very soothing experience!

Sorry to answer you so late, but I see that U got it from somebody else. Unfortunately this year the Christmas tree at the lake had a serious problem during its assemblage due to strong winds and its inauguration was delayed, when there is a firework and music show. But it is past already. For a beautiful firework show go to the Copacabana beach on the New Year's Eve. It starts at midnight and usually takes about 10 minutes. If still in town, don't loose it: Wonderful and unforgetable! Happy New Year and All the best in 2016!
