There are two criminals (one with long white hair and the other one with a Canon camera) blocking the rock and charging people money to take a picture. They claim there is a queue but only people who pay them get to the rock. DO NOT PAY THEM, take your own picture. Generally prepare to wait for 2-5 hours, if you even get to take a picture at all. So not worth the wait for a fake selfie.

We had to make 2 trips from Rio to accomplish this hike. The first time we left from Rio at 8:30 am, and by the time we arrived, there was no parking, thus we turned around and drove back to the hotel. The next day we left Rio by 6:45 am and had lots of parking options. We did the hike in about an hour and had no line for pictures at the top. By the time our group of 4 had taken a dozen pictures, there was an hour+ line waiting for their turn to take pictures. A few tips: (1) Google maps will mostly get you there, but from the main road, there will be a steep road that curves up and to the left…this is the road you take, and after a few blocks, you will start to find houses and small lots that offer parking. (2) near the top, we found a couple groups that couldn’t find the rock. Once at the “top”, you have to go a couple hundred yards down the other side (towards the ocean) before you find the rock you are looking for. Using Google maps (and our gps location) helped us find the rock when others got lost.

Me and my husband did one super cray tour with our local tour guide Alvaro and we had one of the best days spend in Rio. This place it’s still not that popular and you can explore the wild and beautiful nature. Hiking in the wood in order to reach this place is around 50-60min one way but it’s worth the efforts. The view from the top is splendid. It’s taking a lot of time in order to get the nice picture on the clif, but as every other touristic place it’s manageable. Just prepare a jacket( it’s super windy), mosquito repellent and comfortable shose.
You won’t regret visiting this place.

Nice view and nice hike, very beautiful views. Best take some water on sunny days.
In the little town where hike starts, are taxi motocycles to bring you up already for a part of the trip. In tourist season, it can be crowdy with lots of people waiting to take their photo. When it's cloudy try to wait for a better moment, as clouds can be low and beaches will not be visible.

Paid 300 usd for a private tour. The view and the pictures were some of the best pictures I have ever taken on a vacation. The driver picked us up at my Airbnb in Ipanema Beach and drove us to meet the tour guide at the start of the hike. I just turned 46 and the hike takes about 50 minutes up a mountain. It was a little tuff going up. I had 3 fit friends who helped me, but I was trying to keep going and to keep up with guys 10 years younger.

It's a tough climbing for about an hour to reach the top but when you reach it you really feel that it was worth it. Be prepare to wait in line for a while to take pictures because it's a very popular spot.

Beautiful place, up a clean trail. Best get a taxi and negotiate with the driver to wait till you come back. They let the meter running so most of them are happy to wait for you. You pay once you are back. We saw a local bus #867 Barra de Guaratiba serving the route, but not sure where it takes you to once out of the area.
There are motorbikes that charge Rs 7 to take you up a very steep hill through the neighbourhood, to the beginning of the trail. For this price they also agreed to take 2 people per bike. It takes 2 min on the bike and they drive up fast, so maybe not very suitable for the fainthearted.
The trail is easy, it took us 20-25 min to reach the top. My Fitbit showed 2 590 steps if you want to be precise :)
There are people selling drinks, acaí and snacks along the way. Prepare to pay around Rs 5 for a bottle of water.
Depending on the time of day, there is a line of people waiting to take their pictures. You could wait anything between 15 min to couple of hours (especially on weekends).
Once up there try to enjoy the view and just relax as some people try to strike a lot of poses and it takes time.
Have a great time and keep the place clean for everyone to enjoy!

3 hour round trip from Rio, over 200 R$ in taxi charges and about an hour long hike through muddy trails and bike taxi. All for that one picture of you hanging off the cliff that will get you more likes on social media than you ever got :) Choose a sunny day if possible & try and arrive early as people do line up for the picture.
Well if you don't care about the picture, this trip may disappoint as there isn't much apart from some stunning views which you can get from Sugarloaf or Redeemer too.

The trail leading up to the start of the hike was probably the hardest part. The start of the hike is very complicated to get to without a guide/if you don't speak Portuguese. We were coming from Copacabana and it took us a subway, then the BRT and then another bus (we used a guide so I don't remember the bus routes) to the town, then a steep walk to the trailhead. It rained the day before the tour so the trail was muddy and slippery. Coming downhill was challenging and tests your knees/ankles. Wear hiking boots if you can, but running shoes will do. I saw people in flip flops... Don't recommend, I prayed for their ankles. The rock itself is very crowded. We came during low season at around 11am and it was a 1hr wait). My tip is to take a picture on the same rock but on the very right of it (away from the frame of the people on the "instagram" rock.). No line up and the view is just as good. There are other short trails from the Rock with better views and almost no crowds. Bring more water than you think you will need (at least 1.5L). It gets very hot. The hike is steep but short. View points coming up to the hike were beautiful. No bathrooms on the trail, so go before you start or use nature. There is a guy with a stand at the top selling acai, also another person offering professional photos (R$5/photo).

Hi!
Is it a real trekking through an unmarked or defined path, or is it a steep hill with an easy to follow path?
Are there railings to hold on to.
I would appreciate as much details as possible.
I have an injured knee, but can walk long distances.
Thanks in advance.

It is a steep path to follow. There are a few ledge (rocks) to skirt around. The loose stones make the descent quite slippery. There are no hand rails but you might need a sturdy stick. I am not sure about the rock itself because it is sheer rock, not easy to climb up and over with an injured knee! Good luck.
