This is a very interesting place where you can find all types of rock-related stuff. Punk style jackets, gothic-like clothes, etc. There's a LP store filled with rare vinyls called 'Baratos e Afins'. Definitely a must-go for collectors!

Went with my girlfriend to see the place, experience the center of São Paolo, and buy shirts and souvenirs. While the way there is a bit dangerous for a turist the place is worth the trip. There are many good stores if you're into metal much and related things. Bought 5 t-shirts for cheap and some souvenirs. I recommend people... More

This attraction is located near the Republica metro. This area of Sao Paulo has a lot of homeless people. It is dirty and unsafe after dark. There is an open air market here, but the one located in Liberdale is much better. In addition, this business and many others is closed on Sundays.

I love this place. It has amazing rock stores, places to get your hair done, skating and graffiti stores. I simply love it.

One could say it's become a terribly standard, even gimmicky tourist attraction. I say you can never have enough of it :p

This located in the central area of SP, so you will find the weirdest moat interesting group of people hanging around here. There is tattoo parlours, cd shops, people braiding hair, rock style clothes..... You can come by metro or walk but be safe!

This is a must for every rock music lover. Huge number of stores with every single item you can imagine related to rock like instruments, memorabilia, clothes, CDs, vinyl, etc. You want it, you will find it and right in the center of the city.

Most of the four stories here is focused on metal CDs. However if you're looking for vinyl go to Baratos Afins on the second floor. Pretty helpful staff especially if you're looking for something specific. Lots of Brazilian music alphabetized with titles that I've never actually seen in person (Tropicalia). Spent about $300 US here.

Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
