Topped by a purple-and-burgundy-striped conversation piece of a skyscraper at the north pole of Faria Lima, the cultural center named after a renowned Japanese-Brazilian artist (whose son designed the building) features a rotating schedule of visual art exhibitions, including award-winning photography, avant-garde sculptures, and even decorative cachaça bottle labels. The institute is, quite simply, one of the city's best art venues.

The building has an attractive look from outside. The interior is modern and well-designed. There's a charming restaurant which comfortable to sit in, I don't know about the food because it closed by the time I got there(after 17:00). It was blessed to see Gaudi's exhibition which is totally worth coming. I followed TripAdvisor how to get here by Metro,... More

It was very quiet when we visited one morning in January 2016. There was a very interesting exhibition going on which also had a film by Ray Eames. It has a couple of great shops inside that sell local artisan pieces too. I really loved the jewellery. There is also places to eat downstairs too. It is an interesting building... More

Went there for a lazy Sunday stroll. Not disappointed. The exhibition was well laid out and in English. The initial exploration of the mondernist movement provided sufficient contextual background to Gaudi and his works. Interesting and educative. Worth the $R 12.00 admission fee for the 2 hour visit.

Arrived too late to spend enough time but thoroughly enjoyed the great Gaudi exhibit. What an amazing genius.

The Institute offers a wonderful external and internal aesthetic experience. The architecture is extravagant and exciting but at the same time intensely practical. The exhibition spaces are relatively small and intimate and there is an excellent restaurant. I saw the Gaudi Barcelona exhibition which was informative and beautifully presented. In the current Brazilian polítical, economic and social crisis it is... More

Be alert to know what is on exhibition and on the scene or just go by the region for a walk and eat in the inner restaurant

Beautiful architecture, check the website for the exhibit calendar. On Sunday's it happens a hand made fair near by,at Praça dos Omaguas close to Fnac Pinheiros. Also near has the Mercado Minicipal de Pinheiros, that is a good place to eat.

Staying in Pinheiros

Neighbourhood Profile
Pinheiros
Exploring Pinheiros, a neighbourhood known for cozy restaurants and cafes, you will notice a youthful energy. Several cultural centres and institutes surround the area and even its main church, Calvário, hosts a traditional Brazilian “Festa Junina” - a celebration with traditional music, dance, and food during the months of June and July. On the weekends, residents gather at Benedito Calixto Square, a loud and crowded area where people enjoy live music drinks alongside the antiquities fair.
